Study in THREE different ways:
1) Study Pages: See all data for the idiom on one convenient, scrollable page. Tap the idiom to hear it spoken, see the romaji and English definitions, read the comments and etymology, and read & listen to the example sentence to see how the idiom is used in real Japanese. In addition to hearing just the idiom and example sentence, it also has a sound file that leaves a space for repetition, a slowed-down version, the example sentence, and the English too.
2) Flash cards: Select one of the eight categories; choose to display the Japanese or the English on the front of the flashcard; flip the card to see the meaning and notes; and tap the sound icon to hear it spoken. You can also practice the example sentences in the Flash card section.

-=iPhone or iTouch for Beginners up=- Use kotowaza--or Japanese proverbs-- to help give your Japanese just the right nuance. Knowledge of common provebs can greatly enhance your conversational skills. This app contains 25 lessons covering 25 of the most useful proverbs often heard in Japanese.
|
While beginners can get a lot out of this app, knowing simple grammar and a basic vocabulary is recommended.
25 Highly Useful Kotowaza--Japanese Proverbs with Sound and detailed explanation
Proverbs are sometimes thought of as clichés—but with a poetic touch. Proverbs, however, are not meaningless, overused phrases. They often express in a pithy and precise way complex meanings that would otherwise require a great deal of explanation.
Japanese tend to use kotowaza often—more often than most English speakers. These 25 proverbs represent some of the more useful kotowaza heard in daily Japanese life.
You‟ll notice them in movies, in writing, and most importantly spoken by friends and colleagues. Knowing common kotowaza will not only help you express your thoughts more clearly, but also take your Japa-nese to a whole new polished level.

This app includes:
* 100 sound files with normal and slowed down speed for each proverb AND normal and slowed down speed for each example sentence.
* Detailed usage and linguistic explanations and notes

-=iPhone or iPod Touch=- The Founding Fathers of the United States are remembered for many things, not the least of these are their writings and speeches. Many quotes seen commonly are left nameless or are even misattributed. We have painstakingly researched not only the author of each quote but the date and related background information. Currently, the app has over 300 quotes; we have an update almost ready adding another 50 and making minor corrections. For more interesting Founding Fathers Quotations, please see Mark's Quotes.

Why is this app different from other quote apps?
Most quote apps out there are simply flashcard apps with little or no information or interactivity. This is fine for reading, but for those with a genuine interest in the founding era of the Republic, our app contains context and date information. One of the reasons we created this app was because so many wonderful quotes found on the internet and other apps are misattributed or--perhaps worse--left unnamed or undated.
We have researched each of the quotes found in the app and have done our best to make sure the quote and the information is accurate. (of course PLEASE let us know if you spot any errors!)
Also ours isn't simply a list of quotes in a flashcard format. We have included bios of the major players, a search function to quickly find any keyword, an interactive quiz, a way to email a quote to a friend, and a favorites feature.
We sincerely want to make this a useful app for lovers of American history--if you have ANY suggestions or corrections, please email us or give us a call.

With this application even beginners completely new to Japanese can learn to understand and speak phrases in the Kansai dialect (Kansai-ben). Japanese 101: Kansai Dialect is fully functional on the iPhone and iPod Touch. There is no need to be connected to the Internet when using this application.
Japanese 101: Kansai Dialect includes 240+ Kansai-ben phrases and expressions, including the Japanese text, romaji (Japanese written using English characters), and an English translation for each. Most phrases also include notes that explain what the expression would be in standard Japanese (標準語 hyoujungo) or give other cultural tidbits of interest. You can also hear a native Japanese voice actress from Osaka speak each phrase at native speed and additionally at a slower speed to ensure that you catch every syllable.
Here is an example of a particularly unique Kansai-ben phrase from the application.
Here is the normal speed pronunciation:Here is the slow speed pronunciation:

If you have seen Japanese comedy game shows, movies, or anything spoken with Japanese people from Osaka, Kobe, Kyoto, or Nara, you’ve probably noticed that they often use phrases and expressions that you cannot find in your textbooks… or even in your dictionary!
These Kansai-jin (people from West Japan, i.e., the Kansai area) are using the colorful and fun expressions from the Kansai dialect. Now you can learn a wealth of key Kansai-ben phrases on your iPhone or iPod Touch.
You can study these Kansai-ben phrases in three different ways with this application.
1) Study Pages: See a list of the phrases and expressions on one convenient, scrollable page organized by category. Touch the phrase of interest to see a page with the Japanese text, the romaji, the English translation, and the notes. Touch again to hear the phrase spoken by a native Japanese voice actress from Osaka at native speed. You can also hear the phrase spoken extra slowly to be sure to catch every syllable.
2) Flash Cards: Select one of the categories; choose to display the Japanese or the English on the front of the flashcard; swipe your finger to flip the card to see the meaning and notes; and tap the sound icon to hear it spoken.
3) Quiz Mode: Select one or more categories and 15 random multiple-choice questions will be generated from those categories. Test your knowledge in a fun and interactive way. After the quiz finishes you can review the phrases you missed.

Although this will be helpful for those traveling in Japan, it isn't designed to be a travel phrasebook, but a conversation phrasebook. It is best for those who want to quickly learn conversational Japanese with correct pronunciation. The words and phrases encountered here are among the most used in everyday conversational Japanese.
Nothing can take the place of a good textbook and this is certainly not an attempt to do so. We highly recommend getting a textbook to keep your learning structured and regular.
A great way to learn vocabulary and grammar is to memorize phrases and to know when to use them. Listening and repeating the words and phrases also help improve pronunciation and listening comprehension.
