Welcome to TJP Chat! TJPチャットへようこそ！
So you want to join in the conversation but find the forum isn't fast enough for you? Maybe you'd like a little more casual environment to practice your Japanese?
We've got just the place for you, and I'll walk you through the steps you'll need to join in the fun.MAC USERS: Please see bottom for instructions!
First we'll need a chat program. For this we can use Pandion. Let's grab that from the Pandion Download Page and get it installed. (Please see the bottom of this page for how to ask for help if you're having trouble getting Pandion installed.)
Now we're ready to get you signed up and signed in.
Go ahead and start up Pandion...
You should see this window, but because we're signing up for the first time, go ahead and click the "Sign Up" button in the lower left corner... (if you had a chat account in the past, from more than several months ago, you'll probably need to "Sign Up" again as well. The old chat server was somewhere else and moved here several months ago. Unfortunately the old chat accounts didn't move as well, so go ahead and sign up again if your old login and password aren't working now.)
Which brings us to the Sign Up Wizard. Go ahead and click "Next" to get started.
Here on the Personal Information screen it asks for your Name. Go ahead and type in your TJP username (not your real name) and click "Next".
When you get to the Address Information screen, change the default pandion.be settings to those shown in the image.
Username: (whatever your username is on TJP. this will probably be filled in with your username that you typed in on the previous page.)
Password: (please use your TJP password here)
Confirm Password: (type your password again to verify that it's typed correctly)
You can choose whether or not to have it remember the password for you.
Once that's all entered, go ahead and click the "Next" button.
Pandion will then sign you up on the chat server and hopefully show that your registration was completed successfully. You can go ahead and click "Next" and then "Finish" and we're ready to get you signed on!
Signing in and joining a Conference Room
Now that we're registered, it's time to sign on and start chatting!
Let's go ahead and join one of the Conference Rooms.
Choose "Actions" and then "Join a Conference Room..." from the menu...
This should bring up a list of available rooms.
Go ahead and choose "The Lounge"...
And that's it! You should be ready to join in the learning and fun now.
Bookmarking the chat room and signing on in the future
In closing, let's show you how to Bookmark this chat room for next time, and how to get signed back in and join the chat in the future.
Let's click on "Bookmarks" and then "Add to Bookmarks..." in the menu at the top of your chat window.
That will bring us to the "Add Conference Room Bookmark" window. Let's go ahead and check the "Join this conference room when logging in" box so that we won't have to go through the earlier steps of listing the conference rooms and choosing "The Lounge" each time we log in.
Go ahead and click "OK" and you're all set for next time! Now when you start up Pandion next time, you'll see the regular login window...
Your username should already be filled in, and if you didn't choose to save your password last time, go ahead and type that in now. Then click the "Log In" button and you should be connected. If you chose the "Join this conference room when logging in" box when we bookmarked the chat room earlier, then you should join right back in and be ready to chat. If you didn't choose that option, you can choose the room from the Bookmarked Conference Rooms menu...
Or you can just use the same method to list the rooms that we showed earlier and join that way.
Well, hopefully that's everything you need to join in the learning and fun, and everything you need to keep on joining us in the future!
Please feel free to ask for help if you have any trouble getting signed up, signed on, or whatever. We'll be glad to try to solve the problem with you. You can leave a message in the Problems section of the forum where people can help you, or you can message me directly
