Welcome to the TJP Chat! 「TJPチャットへようこそ！」
Welcome to TJP Chat! Here we have a lively community where you can practice your Japanese language in a relaxed environment, chat with friends, or get a little more serious in one of the study groups. There's something for everybody.
As always, remember what it says in the FAQ; Rule #1: "If your Grandma wouldn't approve, don't do it here!" People from many different countries, cultures, and age groups come here and we want to keep it as friendly of an environment as possible for everyone. We appreciate your help with this.
Please note: The chat is not yet linked to the user accounts on the rest of the website, so the first time you log into the chat you will need to check the "Register New Account" box, even if you already have an account on TJP and/or the forum.
We will be working next on getting the webchat to use the same accounts as the rest of the site to make it even easier for TJP users.
One final note to keep in mind is that while The Lounge is not logged, most of the classrooms generally are logged, especially when a study group is in session. This is done so that students can refer back to the lessons and discussions later. Please keep this in mind when visiting the classrooms and try not to say anything you might regret later.

Quickstart guide to getting signed on, options, and more
First we'll walk through the quickstart portion of getting you connected and chatting. After that we'll show you a few extra tips and show you how you can easily find other chatrooms to join.
One thing to keep in mind which might be a little hard to see in the login box are the limitations on usernames, so I'll spell them out here: No spaces (eg; "John Smith"), no ampersands ( & ), no apostrophes ( ' ), no colons ( : ), no angled brackets ( < or > ) and no "at" symbol ( @ ).
If you would like to use a name with a space in it, please replace the space with a period ( . ), for example "John.Smith".
First go ahead and type in your username and password just like you would on TJP normally.
If this is your first time signing onto the chat server, please check the "Register New Account" box below your Username and Password.
Go ahead and click the Login button to get signed on.
Notice, once you've Registered with the chat you won't need to check this box anymore. Only check it the first time you register for the chat.- Once you're signed on, you can go ahead and click the "Join Groupchat" icon to bring up the window for
joining a groupchat or searching for available rooms.
- If you just want to jump right on in and get started, just go ahead and click "Join" on this window and you will join our default chatroom,
The Lounge, where everyone hangs out for general chatting.

You made it! Now you're in The Lounge and chatting with everyone.
Once we've made it this far, you might notice the sound effects for the chat and decide you want to turn them off.
To do that, go ahead and click the "Preferences" link at the top of your buddy list.
This brings up the Options window where you can uncheck the "Play Sounds" option. Just close this window when you're done, the options are saved "on the fly" so to speak.
If you decide to explore some of the other rooms available, go back to step 5 and bring up the "join group chat" window again.
This time go ahead and click the "Open Search" button at the top instead.
Just click the "Search" button on this window, no need to change anything.
Here we have a list of some of the other rooms available. Go ahead and pick one that sounds interesting and then click "Join" to check it out.
