Re: ことはり・ことわり

大辞林によると、「断る」も「ことわる」しか載っていません。「事(こと)割る(わる)」からきたとも言われるので、本来「わ」と書くのが正しいのではと思います。

Re: Ending a sentence with から unusually...

It usually means, what the speaker said is definite, absolute or must be obeyed, and the speaker don't want the listener to oppose him in any case.

The listener will just end up the topic no matter he understand/agree or not.

Re: Ending a sentence with から unusually...

This is just my own feeling, please tell me if I were wrong. から means something like: 分かってほしい 分からなくても、とりあえず受けてほしい 異議があっても、黙っていて、反発しないでほしい Simply speaking: 私の言うことは絶対だから。 Using ~ないんだからね to end up a sentence is a characteristic of ツンデレ. んだ makes a strong, but not so forceful declaration, and is ...

Re: What is the difference between these two sentences

教科書にはあまり教えられない、多少変格的だがよくされている言い方のようです。
『存在』の場所、或いは、『出現』の場所と受けてよいかな、と思いますが、よく分かりません。

Re: Japanese Colors.

It is said that there are only four type of colors: あか(ak) あを(aw) くろ(kur) しろ(sir) You can use loan words and Chinese words to express more colors. See 色名一覧 and 日本の色の一覧 . I have another question: In Chinese, some colors are gradable. E.g. 白→更白/最白 黒→更黒/最黒 紅→更紅/最紅 緑→更緑/最緑 青→更青/最青 Some are not. E.g. 紅色→...

Re: ‘ん’ Ending Question

Really, it’s a particle? Its a suffix like ず,れば,れる,etc. rather than a particle. It's called 助動詞 in 学校文法. the present speculation would be なららむ. the past would be ならけむ, is that correct? Not correct. Possible combinations are ならむ なれらむ なりけむ and なるらむ Besides, む/ん is still alive in modern Japanese, espe...

Re: いただいて vs 下さって

Well, there are a great number of nouns/adjectives which decline irregularly. Some adjectives seem to decline regularly, but their meanings change with their forms. 終止:色々だ 連用:色々に (rarely used. usually with copula verbs like なる, etc.) 副詞:色々と・色々 修飾:色々な・色んな(casual)・色々の(less common) 準体:色々な(の) 色んな(の) An ...

Re: いただいて vs 下さって

くださって seems to be better.

Sometimes they use いただく to make it sound more formal, e.g.
色々お教えいただき、ありがとうございました
色々教えていただき、ありがとうございました

But never 色々教えてもらって、ありがとうございました or 色々教えてもらい、ありがとうございました
色々ありがとう(ございました) is also fine.

Shiroisan, 色々 = 色々と, is an adverb.

Re: Weird なる useages that always throw me off

なる is used to alternate voices. You can think なる is the 自動詞 of なす・する. So 勉強になる means something like 勉強できる. (勉強することが達成される, “the action of learning happens”, or “You get the result of the action learning”) いい勉強になる means something like “よく勉強できた” or “よく勉強した”, “I have learned a lot”. 対イラン制裁は、ヨーロッパ諸国の損害にな...

“emphasize” is almost a useless term without a definition. Let's me give you a definition: “emphasize” means Your suggest a certain part of speech contains more important information.(new, essential, hard to predicate, easy to mistake, etc.) You can say it with a louder voice, slower speed, and a hi...
