Re: To learn more about the JLPT

Not sure about an actual test, but this guy does a good review of the material in pure japanese:

Re: Hello!

Wait a minute :hand: I'd worry about what to do after genki 1/2 after actually completing them. The vast amount of material that comes after that is only a distraction from the material right in front of you. All the people who seem to hit "plateaus" and give up on japanese forever are the ones that...

Re: が and わ

SusuKacangSoya, your example sentences were fine but your explanation was mistaken, and would quickly land you in trouble for more complex sentences. as for what I've heard, "が" emphasizes the topic of the sentence, while "は" emphasizes the subject of the sentence. が only indicates the subject of a ...

It's は, not わ. わ means harmony.

Re: he'd of got me

I think if the subtlety of the Great Gatsby happens to hit you, it could be a good read, otherwise I understand why it would be boring. There were a few things I was able to identify with, but it wasn't very interesting for me. Out of all the classics we were made to read in school, the only one tha...

Re: he'd of got me

 「would of」 = 「would've」 の発音です。 つまり、それを書くと正しくないと思います。でも口頭でいいです。

Re: get to know each other Jap style

Nice to meet you :) I see no mistakes. I wanted some practice so this will be difficult to read for beginners, hope that's alright. はじめまして、shiroisanって書いてあるけれども、shiroでいいですよ。カナダの出身です。まだ、生まれ育った町に住んでいます。英語と日本語以外に、他の言語が出来ません。23歳なので、まだ若いうちに日本語能力を毎日少しずつ上達するようにしています。日本語専攻の大学生として全身全霊頑張っています。こういうために仕事さえを止めておき...

Re: Good book to start learning japanese?

I've read that Rosetta Stone is much more geared toward the romanic languages, and that for languages like Japanese it offers a more stilted/ unnatural dialect. I'm no expert on Rosetta though.

Re: Good book to start learning japanese?

IMO: Stay as far away from the Japanese for busy people volume and the "My Japanese coach" on ios as possible. Now that that's out of the way. For assisted study I would recommend minna no nihongo, for self-study I would recommend the 2nd edition of Genki. The only people I've heard talk negatively ...

Re: My Japanese app for intermediate levels

Intermediate Japanese is full of a TON of adverbs, many that sound similar- I get them mixed up all the time! heh

Anyway, good luck with your app ventures

Re: My Japanese app for intermediate levels

I got it, it's great. In terms of design/ quality/ effect I'd give it 5 out of 5 easily. The only problem is, at the moment, it's quite short on material for binge studiers like myself. I look forward to updates ^^ Edit: I understand it must take a while to do all those illustrations/ animations, pe...

Re: My Japanese app for intermediate levels

I agree, looks cool. Is it a comprehensive review of vocab for that level range, or is it more of a smattering/ sampling that reviews a bit here and there? I assume if it's only $1.99 it's probably the latter? Did you have any native help to proof-read sentences or did you manage without? I'll proba...

Re: Likely taking N5 in December...

N5 pointless? Well if you want to go there, all from N5-N3 is basically 'pointless' in terms of applying for anything bilingual. That doesn't mean you can't give it a purpose of your own. Genki is good ground work but next you should be combing through JLPT vocab/ kanji check lists for whatever leve...
