RE: wat is ur favorite japanese word?

mine could be ごめんなさい。 A deeper form of "Sorry" in Japanese, because nowadays, saying this word is kind of like sacrificial.

A good tongue twister for a word for me should be:

daiaihajimeranakereba narimasen:
大愛始めらなければなりません。

RE: How long does it take?

I think better learn the grammar first. Then Kana, and then Kanji. When you got hang of the grammar, it makes kana and kanji easy.

RE: Why You Want To Learn Japanese

Why Athildur? I know French "might be" easier that Japanese because it's quite near to English. You live in Nederlands right? That means, U Spreekt Afrikaans? I mean, you could understand Afrikaans also? As for German, it's a tongue-twister of a language. The only way to "enjoy" a language is to sim...

Extremely short excerpt

I've been studying Japanese for about 3 years now, and I'm still not getting any (not that Simple Plan album) formal education. However, I have a translator, which could check my grammar. However, I still need a live person to check my grammar. Here is an excerpt from my novel-in-progress. It's call...

RE: What is this Kanji?

Well, it works other ways though...

While the westerner goes the Kanji wrong, the Japanese oftentimes write some things in English wrong.

RE: What Do You Want to Do?

Now that's some nice lookin' pictures...

Okinawa has a very different culture from the mainland of Japan. First, their dialect is quite unique, then they have that south song or what do you call it? Very much like Enka...

FYI: Most of the pre-war Japanese that came to my city were Okinawans

RE: Learning through movies/books

if you want some good short stories. I recommend Haruki Murakami, he's quite good. Or if you want, you can try a Japanese haiku for a start. For films, a good one could be Zatoichi or Swallowtail Butterfly- award winning ones heheh. Film-subs or fansubbed anime is better than dubbed because you get ...

RE: Korean Anyone?

They call their chinese characters Hanja. But I rarely see Hanja in some Korean writings. I think anyone who would study korean would find Japanese to be a more challenging language.

RE: Advice on learning Kanji.

Another good way to memorize maybe is to follow the patterns in Kanji. There are some patterns in some words. I've learned that again in L&H's Kanji search function
