You might have had more luck on thispage.
メカとは、メカニズムの略語であるが、フィクションの分野(アニメやライトノベル、SF映画など)においては特に「空想的な'機械装置」を指す用語であり、しばしば「巨大ロボット」の類を指す。

I know this wasn't your question, but I don't think the そこで here is specifying the location that something is taking place. Take a look at these examples:

Re: Website -Japanese example sentences

Are there other useful websites besides WWWJDIC and http://www.alc.co.jp/index.html where I can research on many many Japanese example sentences? You'll find goolge is amazing. Especially because it gives you the number of hits letting you compare how common different expressions are or find out if...

Re: In need of help from experienced Japanese speaker

now my question is wouldnt it be easier to learn words first before you start learning Hiragana? I think I agree with Chris here more than Dustin. It's much easier and more fun to learn kana if you are associating them with actual words than just simply a sound. It's also more motivating as each ro...

You can find the readings of most words using a dictionary and google. This is just a guess so maybe someone will be able to correct it.

Re: A Kanji Word Daily

I have to admit I dislike the concept of a "kanji of the day" sort of thing, because that only amounts to 365.25 kanji a year (not a very good rate), and that's assuming you memorize every single one of them. Not a very efficient way to study. I would venture that the point of word/kanji a day cale...

If you are reading without understanding anything then you aren't really reading at all. Just looking at words.
I don't really understand what you are asking.

Re: Good Anime for listening comprehsion

I remember an anime called Suzuka to be relatively easy to understand at the time. It again deals with relatively real world situations which I think helps. Perhaps I would categorise it as intermediate rather than beginner, but it's been a long time since I watched it so it is hard to judge.

Re: Help with this confusing book! :)

See, that's where your ignorance comes in 'cause you obviously wouldn't know that I asked for help for a reason. I've read the whole book that I understood from page to page and it clearly did not say that. Yup.. On page ix (the section on Kanji) it says: The on readings are used mainly in pronounc...

Re: Kanji practice game for the DS

How is 美文字 training? That was another one that I was looking at in the shop the other day, and one of my students said she's using it. I kind of like the idea of the special pen as well. I'm still undecided on 美文字 training. As you'd expect it only trains handwriting, so you never have to remember w...

Re: Kanji practice game for the DS

I use http://www.yesasia.com to import my DS games and http://www.play-asia.com/ is also another good choice. The prices are also in US$ which makes it nice and cheap, yesasia prices inculde postage, but play asia's doesn't. This game sounds interesting. I've been getting great use my kankenDS2 and ...
