love means never having to say you're sorry

「愛とは決して後悔しないこと」という、映画の有名なセリフについて質問です。 英語だと、love means never having to say you're sorryとのことですが、このsorryはどういう意味なのでしょうか。 Say you're sorryとくると、どうしても「ごめんなさいを言う」に思えてしまい、もしかして「愛する人にはごめんなさいなんて言わなくて良いのよ、それが愛なのよ」ってことなのかと思いました。 謝罪と後悔ってちょっと違いますよね。 文章の美しさとか、文字数の都合もあってこの訳なのかもしれませんが、本当に「後悔」と捉えて良いのでしょうか?? If you lik...

RE: Complete Best

I haven't bought any complete best albums for a long time, so I'm not actually annoyed but I guess those "complete best" could mean that it just has all of the theme songs. by the way, I love Lodoss war songs! I haven't watched the latest series in which Spike was the main character, but the first O...

RE: 寂しい vs. 淋しい

I always write it all in hiragana, but I once wondered the same thing! After a short research, I found that there is no particular difference between 淋しい and 寂しい, however: - 寂しい is the original kanji - 淋しい is not official 常用漢字 (kanji designated for everyday use? commonly used kanji?) - the kanji "淋"...

RE: ぐらい usage

if you just say "恋ぐらい知ってて", it is talking about someone else, because the last "て" in this case is what we call 終助詞 and it expresses a request from the speaker. I think it's like an abbriviation of "...てください." However, if you say "恋ぐらい知ってて当然", the "て" is not 終助詞 (maybe 接続助詞), and yes it can be talki...

RE: ぐらい usage

I think ぐらい or くらい has at least 3 meanings. 1. about, approx. 3年くらいかかる (it takes about 3 years) 2. like, similar, as ... as 息をするくらい簡単だ (it's easy like breathing) 彼は私と同じくらい背が高い (he is as tall as I am) 3. at least, or emphasizing something 挨拶(あいさつ)ぐらい言いなさい (you should at least say hello) そのくらい知っています (...

Are you looking for a Japanese online game? (i believe Trickstar is an online game) I think Monster Hunter is pretty popular as well as Final Fantasy 11 in japanese online game market. but I'm not sure if these games are for beginners... For stand-alone games, the final fantasy series, the dragon qu...

yes, i think so :)
or maybe 何をいっているんだ! or something like that.
definitely, なにおう is 何をー and it's not 名に負う in this case.

RE: Try not to...

Try not to...

ハリーポッターを読んでいたら、その中でよくわからない文章がありました。 "Try not to get too much ash on the carpet" というセリフに対して、"No, Professor"と返していたんです。 文脈から考えると、「じゅうたんにあまり灰をこぼさないようにしてね」「ええ、わかってますよ」みたいなことだと思いますが、もしそうであれば、どうしてNoになるのでしょうか。 これが付加疑問文(tag question)であれば、 "You don't try to get too much 〜, do you?" - "No (I won't try to 〜)" と...

RE: How to write "For support, e-mail xxxxx@xxx.com" in Japa

I think the most simple one is "お問い合わせはこちらまで: xxxxx@xxx.com"

If you want a very long one, "ご意見、ご質問等ございましたら、こちらのメールアドレスまでお問い合わせください: xxxxx@xxx.com"

Hope it helps :)

RE: 当て字 and 義訓 readings???

義訓 is a word that is created by the meaning of Kanji intentionally. There is almost no rule and the writer makes it just for the occasion according to the context. so I guess you don't have to worry which is gikun or which is not. (and I believe that 今年, 今朝, 明日 etc. are maybe 熟字訓.) For example of 義訓...

Electone for about 20 years.
Have you ever seen or heard about the electone outside of Japan?

It is not as popular as the piano, but it's a great instrument. :)
