Ask for ordinal number

My native language is Chinese. I'm learning both English and Japanese. I have a question about English. There are some question words (i.e. which, how, who, etc...) are used for question sentence. I want to know how to ask for ordinal number? For example: Obama is the _??_th president of the United ...

Re: 母語は?what´s your mother tongue?

My mother tongue is Cantonese, it is a sub-language of Chinese used in the southern China (e.g. Hong Kong).

Re: 母語は?what´s your mother tongue?

My mother tongue is Cantonese. It is a dialect of Chinese used in southern China (i.e. Guangdong province, Hong Kong and Macau). So Kanji is quite easy for me because the kanji is come from my language.

RE: how do japanese school children learn kanji?

First of all, my first language is Chinese.

When I was a child, I spent a lot of time to read and write the Chinese characters (kanji?) again and again. Then I remembered it.

There is no special way to learn the kanji, just spend a lot of time in practice.

RE: 漢字。。。ひらがな。。。

Writing in Cantonese is possible but not common, this is just used in some informal situation.

RE: 漢字。。。ひらがな。。。

This is an English website and quite a lot of people here cannot understand Chinese. It is better to use English or Japanese in our discussion instead of Chinese.

RE: do Chinese use letters or only kanji!???

Both Chinese and Japanese used the same writing of kanji (i.e. Traditional Chinese) in the past. Japan simplified the kanji in 1946 and the mainland China simplified the kanji in 1956. Taiwan, Hong Kong and Macau didn't follow the simplification and still use the traditional script. The population o...

RE: do Chinese use letters or only kanji!???

Chinese has no letters and only use kanji (i.e. Chinese characters). In Taiwan, Hong Kong and Macau, the traditional script is used. In the mainland China, the simplified script is used. There are many dialects in Chinese. The standard form of spoken Chinese is called Mandarin (also called "Putonghu...

Hello!

I come from Hong Kong and I've been learning Japanese for 10 months. My first language is Chinese so kanji is not a problem for me. I just need to remember the pronounciation of kanji. The writing and meaning are similar (sometimes exactly) to Chinese. Just want to say "Hello" to everyone... こんにちは.....
