ものをいう question

Original context 同じく スピードがものを言う 忍刀も装備することが可能r I'm trying to grasp how the ものをいう is used/translated here. A search on alc brings up results such as: 運がものをいう競技 game of chance 私たちの仕事では、結果がものをいうのです。 Results are what talk in our business. 身ぶりが言葉よりもものをいう。 actions speak louder than words I can understand t...

てもらおうとする

I`m trying to tell a friend I was hoping another friend of mine would show me around his town sometime and just wanted to confirm とする could be used when attempting to have something done for you. For example 友達に案内してもらおうとする which I`m hoping would be translated as "I`ll try to have them show me around...

"Something came up"

I've been struggling to start studying Japanese again and a question popped into my head. I'd like to express "something came up" or basically "it became this" to use as a reason. For example, if I had plans with someone to meet them at 6, I'd like to be able to say "Something came up/it became that...

RE: 二日(ふつか)

二日おきに doesn't exactly mean 3 days, it means that the interval begins on the day after 2 days. Here's a popular example. 普通列車は 駅ごとに 止まりますが、 急行は 三駅おきに 止まります。 O- stop X- pass 普通 O---O---O---O---O---O 急行 O---X---X---X---O---X So with oki ni don't think of it as every X days, think of it as AFTER e...

RE: I am thinking of moving to Japan.

Since her English is much better than my Japanese, I'd advise anyone to learn WITHOUT translating. In fact, whenever I talk about learning a language to my friends who are bilingual (Spanish,French,Russian,Chinese,Serbian, etc.) they say they don't translate in their head. They can "switch" their mi...

And I think Gackt's song 'Metamorphoze' was an opening for an anime too. Haven't seen that one either. :)
Was the theme song for the new compilation Gundam Zeta movie.

RE: せて > して

I think you might be confusing まかせる's te form and まかすs te form. They both mean "to entrust someone". So まかせて isn't becoming まかして, they're two different words that mean the same thing. I don't think I ever delve too deep into whether there is a true difference between them.. anyone have any comments?...

Then the man says "well, you can pay me in anime!" and the manager says "you're hired!"

I have a feeling we have a few people around here who have thought about this scenario when going to Japan.. ;)

RE: "wuz good" ...wtf...

Perhaps this topic shows the age of its repliers..lol.. Just to clarify, "wuz good" is "what's good". In case you didn't know, what's good is today's "what's up". Its origin is from rap and hip hop slang but it pretty much caught on as the new greeting nationwide. It simply means for "what is good (...
