Re:

Since the thread has already been resurrected, has anyone heard of the Enka singer, Jero?

I am not much of an Enka fan, but I thought he sang well. You can hear him sing 海雪 here.

外国人が見た日本

I found this on youtube not to long ago, and I thought it was very interesting from what I was able to understand.

The title is pretty much self-explanatory. It's a discussion between four Japanese people and seven foreigners. They discuss how foreigners view Japan.

Check it out!!! 外国人が見た日本

RE: My Japanese Class Was Canceled

That's really unfortunate. Feeling disappointed cannot be avoided. But your attitude is still in the right place, and that's what counts. Keep at it!

RE: What about this weekend?

What about this weekend = 今週末はどうですか?

If you're asking what time right after the person gives you a yes answer, you could just say 何時に?

RE: How to pronounce when っ is at the end of the word?

When using greeting such as こんばんは、こんにちは、and おはよう, it's best to leave them in hiragana because it's easy to read 今晩は as "as for tonight," which I almost did.

It's really not as bad as it looks. When you start learning 'em, they will start popping up everywhere. At least, that was the case for me.

I'm looking at learning 500+ kanji for the summer. That should be fun. :D
