Ebooks from Aozora Bunko

I'm looking for some easy-to-read Japanese ebooks. Perhaps even children's stories. Any recommendations?

Ordering from Japanese websites

Is it possible for an American to order something from Japan? Like say I want to order a book from Amazon.jp; is that possible? Would it cost extra and if so, how much might it cost?

... you can smile sometimes

"Even in these circumstances, you can smile sometimes." I want to think of how to translate that sentence. I'm going to try to translate the second part, since that was what came to mind first: ~ときどき笑える ~ときどき笑うが出来る Do either of those have the correct grammar? And how about this for the beginning: もし...

相談すること

Does the verb そうだんをする mean you are consulting someone, or they are consulting you? Are these sentences correct:

私はあの人に相談しました。
あの人は私に相談させました。

Re: hiragana katakana

Some of the kana I had trouble with are: ぬ、ネ、ホ、ワ、や チ。 I just wouldn't see them that often, especially with katakana. You really do need to read more Japanese material to memorize the kana. Going on Japanese websites is a big help - and it's something I did when I was just a little kid.

Re: Japanese-language gaming for learners

Thanks for the info. Glad to know I can just make up an address. How many points does a typical Japanese PSX game cost?

The Japanese game industry

There may be a few of you who will get offended at what I'm about to say, but bear in mind the following is my opinion, and I welcome all other respectable opinions. The Japanese game industry seems to be in a slump this generation. Keiji Inafune, Mega Man's creator, stated that the industry has fal...

Re: What if there was a game to learn japanese?

This is way out of my league but i wish someone would do it. Wonder how long that would take for a java programmer to make :) It would be difficult to program what sentences are allowable or have good grammar, and even if someone tried, it would never be perfect. There will always be exceptions. Ju...

Re: Japanese-language gaming for learners

It's really hard for me to find Japanese PSX games. Sadly I don't have the money to import, and I foolishly bought a 360 instead of a PS3. Then again, my 360 only cost $90 at Gamestop, so not bad. しかし、DSがあります。 I'd love to play a Japanese visual novel game, but it'd have to have some kind of interact...

Re: Running two subtitles simultaneously

That's the most awesomest media player I've ever downloaded. Thanks so much for the help. But now I need more help... I can't get the two subtitles to work! Only the first one shows, and even though I have loaded the second subtitle, it doesn't appear. I've tried a few different ways I thought it wo...

Are there any programs where I can run two subtitles - English and Japanese - at the same time while watching a video?

Re: What would you do if I spoke German?

Nah, I really mean it as a sort of rhetorical question. I imagine a lot of Japanese assume that all Westerners speak English, and so a situation like that can come up often. Why not assume they speak Finnish, or Dutch, or Italian instead? That was also rhetorical.
