Proper verb selection

This seems to be the forum where questions of this type are posted. Last night I had a dream wherein a particular character zapped another with a beam from his eye and said 「ルルーシュ・ヴィ・ブリタニアが命じる...我が宿題をやれ!」

Is やる the correct verb to use in this context?

RE: writing japanese backwards?

The explanation I've always seen for that is that it was not true horizontal writing, but rather vertical writing where each column has only one character.

Can you describe the difference between the /r/ sound used in anime dialogue and the /r/ sound used in real world Japanese?

RE: Wapanese/Weeaboo=wtf?

Did someone just say "weeaboo?"

This is the origin of the word itself. How it came to be used in this context is as kayuu explained.

Also, everyone should read PBF.

Japanese fansubbing

Something I've become very curious about lately. There is a very active and prolific community in the English part of the internet involved in fansubbing Japanese movies and television and making them available for download, but is there a Japanese counterpart to it? Is it a relatively obscure, nich...

Perhaps a better phrasing would be "What conditions would be necessary for you to consider it correct?"

RE: Pronunciation - 'R'

I believe the Japanese R is described as a post-alveolar tap or flap, meaning that one produces the sound by tapping the tip of the tongue against the roof of the mouth slightly behind the alveolar ridge, or flapping it past without touching. For comparison, the Spanish R is an alveolar tap, as is t...

RE: ヲタク [You tube video]

Thanks.

WWWJDIC says this for きたん:

奇譚 【きたん】 (n) mysterious story
忌憚 【きたん】 (n,vs) reserve; modesty

The first one is the only one that seems to be relevant in this case. Would this mean that 「きたんです」 is similar to "It's a long story"?

RE: ヲタク [You tube video]

Afternoon folks. I saw this thread a few days ago and thought this video presented a good opportunity to practice both my reading and listening skills. At one point while they're watching the cosplay video (which has its own clip here ), Wada says 「使徒襲来が何ですか」, and then Shoko responds 「使徒がxxxです」. The...
