RE: JLPT 2007! Are you taking it?

I'm taking it, but I haven't decided if I will go for 3 or 4 yet. I passed 4 last year, but only barely... So I'll either try to ace level 4 or go for level 3.

Yeah, I realized that when I looked up 太, which really doesn't mean what it looks like it should mean. I think that the 人と that came up with that kanji had a pretty 大 opinion of his... well, of himself :)

I read it as 96 dog women, which was still pretty funny to me. So I guess it works even for the real beginners.

RE: Christianity in Japan

It may not be an organized religion but it is religion. I guess what I should say is that it is unlike other religions, and that although most Japanese people probably participate in Shinto rituals, most Japanese people would also probably say they are not religious. I guess it's similar to how man...

RE: Quiz Software Program?

You can try out my software ( http://www.digitaldominion.com ), it sounds very close to what you want, and it's free for The Japanese Page members. It runs as a background process, pops up questions every x hours, and based on your answers determines when to show you each question again. Questions a...

RE: RSS or Usenet feeds?

Jim, thank you very much for your work on EDict. I'm sure most of the people on this forum have benefited from your work at some time or another. And for what it's worth, I would love to have RSS feeds as well. It's so easy to lose track of a thread if it's not getting bumped constantly.

RE: JLPT4 Preperation plan

I really like the JLPT test, it's a great motivator for me to study. I just wish they held it more than once a year. For the listening bits, there are written samples for the audio sections available on the web, if you know some native japanese people maybe you can get them to read it for you and re...

RE: My biggest obstacle in studying - Memory

I've got a terrible memory, so I wrote a flashcard program that automatically pops up a review window during the day, and tracks how well I do on each card to determine when to show me the card again. Takes care of the problem of not going back to study a vocab list, and is also easier to manage tha...

You can sign up online for $40. For more info, visit http://www.jflalc.org/?act=tpt&id=23. I don't think you can sign up for 2007 yet though, the test doesn't happen until early December.
