Re: Extending Temporary Visa (90-day Visa)

I went to the 入国管理局 and was told that it's absolutely impossible for an American to extend a temporary visitor visa. The lady actually told me to go to Korea or Hong Kong for a few days and then come back to Japan.

I asked her if that was okay, and she said yes.

Anyway...there it is!

Re: Extending Temporary Visa (90-day Visa)

That was my first thought...but being that this is the Information Age, I'm worried that the inspectors at Narita can see if I was just denied for an extension.

In other words, I'm worried that a denial at the Immigration Office means I have zero options.

Checking Prepaid Softbank Balance

I know I can call 1400 and check, but wondering if there's a number I can text to instead...
In the states there was such a number that told you some stats for the month. I know, different networks and all, but just wondering.

Re: Opinions on these areas: negishi - asakusa - nishihara?

Just a little update, I moved to Asakusa. I stayed in Ueno during the New Years holidays. It was pretty nice there, a quick shot to Shinjuku, Harajuku, even Chiba seemed closer than I expected. I found a really cheap hotel (if you book online) called Weekly Mansion - Ueno. I was paying about USD$50-...

Re: Opinions on these areas: negishi - asakusa - nishihara?

Interesting. I just read Yamanote and Shitamachi . I'd never heard the terms used that way before. From your thoughts and the article, I do like the sound of shitamachi! I had no idea there were different dialects within Tokyo. Shitamachi kotoba sounds pretty cool, too. Thanks for the tips, picking ...

Opinions on these areas: negishi - asakusa - nishihara?

Hey all, do you guys have any opinions about these three areas? negishi - asakusa - nishihara These are the three places I've been able to find that work well with my budget and are an easy commute to school (130-190 yen by train). I think I can actually ride a bike from the first two. I don't mind ...

Re: Difference between "share house" and "guest house"?

Ahh, got it, thanks!

One of my concerns was my housemates being other English speaking travelers. Maybe I'd have a better chance of not using English in a share house.

Difference between "share house" and "guest house"?

I'm looking for a place to stay that has monthly rates, and this site has a section for share houses and guest houses:
http://www.tokyobackpacker.com

The prices are very similar, and I can't figure out how they are different.

Anyone happen to know?

Thanks

Re: Textbook to Follow Minna no Nihongo II

Thank you, clay and kurisuto. I will try to get my hands on these to see what's in store.

Yes, kurisuto, the 会話 is a bit dull and they keep it simple, but overall the points are illustrated very clearly. I try to look at this as an indicator that I'm ready for the next chapter

Textbook to Follow Minna no Nihongo II

Hello all,

I was wondering if I could get some recommendations for a textbook that would follow MNN II.

Perhaps you have studied in a long-term course that started with MNN I & II, what did you guys use the next semester?

Thank you =)

Word for double tooth?

I hear there's a word for this in Japanese, because some consider it quite cute. Does anyone know what it is? Actually...I just forgot it...
