Re: Could I ask you a favor?

Thanks, Hyperworm! Although there are some websites offering corrections for your writings, the ones you give me here are a little bit different. I really appreciate it. ...Yes. Now I'm wondering if the 'offering' part makes sense and 'the ones' is ok... "I have visited a couple of websites where t...

Re: Question about かえってくる

The <te form>いく and <te form>くる forms are used with other verbs and can convey coming and going in other abstract ways, including movement through time. The best explanation I've seen of this topic is in Nakama II, chapter 3, section V if you can find a copy.

Re: Could I ask you a favor?

Thanks SakeIt2Me! I see exactly what you mean. As you know, "I understand it" does not necessarily mean "I will be able to use it properly", though. I know so-called "conjunction and syndeton" are ones of my weak points. Since the logic of structuring a sentence is totally different in Japanese, I ...

I think Akane is a nice name too. Many people would probably pronounce it to rhyme with a failed presidential candidate's name however.

Re: Threads Actual Intention

I love starting a riot.  It amazes me how quickly individuals are to correct another individual. This thread turned out more interesting than originally intended. Aggression will on occasion flare heavy debating and it'll usually attract more individuals into the conversation....

Re: Here's One For Ya

"necroposting" is considered bad forum etiquette. The sentiment isn't unanimous. The rules allow for good necroposts: 1.5: Old threads can and should only be revived if the post benefits the community (Posts like "oh, thanks. lol. I see." etc... aren't beneficial). So unless your post is bringing u...

Re: English & Latin Alphabet

What kind of untranslated text are we talking about? I'm not familiar with what goes untranslated overseas, including text on electronics. It would be preferable to keep the OP intact.

Is it: "Like I would want to be loved by you, lousy kid." I'd like to hear more about the context surrounding this passage.

Re: what is the meaning ?

You're right, I was thinking along the lines of おまえが誰にも好かれたくない.

Originally I was thinking the second speaker wasn't necessarily the 彼氏. Now that I remember that ~たい is only used to describe one's own wants, I'm second guessing that supposition.

I was a little concerned that the negative didn't appear in your first attempt. The second sentence is a vulgar insult to the speaker of the first sentence.

Can you give us an idea of how much Japanese you've studied so far? Have you learned how a verb conjugates into the negative for example?
