I don't think you use いつ with かかる because one is an exact time (as in the answer is "at three pm"), and one is a period of time (as in your answer would be "in three hours"). So maybe 空港にどれくらいかかるか教えてください for 'how long will it take to get to the airport' and いつ空港に着くか教えてください for 'when will we get to t...

Re: Composition

I only know one place to get takoyaki, and that is at a Japanese restaurant, which is also the only proper Japanese restaurant in my town. Some of the chefs at the restaurant are Chinese, though. Many people at my evening class like takoyaki, but it is not easy to find. Most English people wouldn't ...

Re: Reccomended Books & Order

We use Japanese for Busy People in my evening class (well, follow vaguely the order of the chapters at least), and I think it's okay for its purpose. I don't look at it much because the class for me is revision and conversation practice. A couple of things: No kanji is introduced until the second bo...

Re: この文法を手伝ってくれる?

For the first sentence, try looking up にとって (not わたし に とって), and おもいで=思い出 For the second, その うえに おされた スタンプ is all one noun phrase, I believe, modifying 'stamp(s)'. ひつげ - I wonder if it's a typo as I can't find this word at all, but might be referring, from context, to the collection or perhaps a con...

Re: DS Games

ゼルダの伝説 夢幻の砂時計 (Legend of Zelda: The Phantom Hourglass) has a neat little trick where if you tap the kanji it pops up with the reading. http://naruhodojapan.blogspot.com/ is a blog devoted to Kanji DS games. It has reviews for pretty much every DS kanji game in existence. Quite a number of them are b...

Re: Verb help

A good grammar guide is: http://www.guidetojapanese.org/ It really sounds like you need a more structured approach to your grammar - a good textbook would help. It's not just knowing the conjugations, it's knowing how they're used - i.e. たべません is the polite negative non-past, but does double-duty as...

Re: how do I type づ ?

Well, it does on mine ;). Sorry, I didn't phrase that well - I meant, if du doesn't produce づ for the OP, their IME might be oddly set up so that they need to type shi and tsu (although I can't imagine why). But if si, ti, tu, etc. work for them but du doesn't then there's something else going on. :?:

Re: how do I type づ ?

If 'du' does not work for you, try dzu.

m_, which IME system are you using? You may be able to change the settings. Also, what do you have to type to get し and つ? (By which I mean si or shi, tsu or tu?)

Re: Commas

Example, as requested. This is from おかしな訪問者, page 8 (first sentence I laid my eyes on that had several commas in it). Context: Kanta is about twelve years old, and his mother left the family last year. 幹太(かんた)にとって悪い母親ではなかったのに、どうしてこういうことになったのか、幹太も何度か理由を聞いたのだが、父さんは話してくれないからわからない。 Another place I notic...

Re: Yui -- Laugh Away

Songs are hard to translate - the grammar tends to be advanced and they mix things up a lot. But here's the lyrics in kanji/kana, which might help: http://detail.chiebukuro.yahoo.co.jp/qa/question_detail/q1415115854 someone has also done a translation here: http://yui-lover.com/index.php?showtopic=6...
