Re: Need Help for translating a tattoo from a pretty girl's

Taj Mahal was built by slaves. Deface it and I will grin. Getting a tattoo doesn't make one a better or worse human being, but it is a choice and part of the choice is whether one wants to deal with certain stigmas. /thread

Re: Need Help for translating a tattoo from a pretty girl's

Once again, I feel compelled to rant about why its NOT HARD :x to get a correctly done tattoo in Japanese!!! Does the artist have a computer in their tattoo studio? If not, bring a laptop or smart phone, or have them practice a bit at home before they do the tattoo. Step 1) http://jisho.org/ Search ...

Re: Need Help for translating a tattoo from a pretty girl's

The tattoo is probably not Japanese. All the characters I can make out are: 后女法玄 Searches of this phrase and iterations returned no Japanese results, sorry. I tried to look up the words in Chinese dictionaries, but as I don't know what I'm doing, I had little success. The 4th character from the bott...

Re: Dictionary ? about Prefixes + Suffixes

Don't forget to cross-reference with other search types. One trick is to type in a short entry, even a single kanji, and see what comes up. Longer entries will exclude other entries that don't have every part of the search key, but short entries will turn up everything that has that as part of a com...

Re: Why do japanese movies suck?

I have seen a number of Japanese films and/or TV in which I enjoyed mostly the plot, characters, and sound, but my main problem is that some Japanese directors do not seem to know how to film... 1. Anime dynamics no not carry over to media other than animation and comics. Certain expressions in anim...

Re: beached?

「引き上げる」はよく知りませんけど、辞書に調べました。いい翻訳じゃないとおもいます。 英語で「beached whale」や「beached ship」は普通の言葉使い。浜に乗り上げたから、海に帰れないっていう意味があります。あの文のもっと丁寧な言い方なら「Sorry kid, but we have to leave you behind」 In case my English is more understandable than my Japanese (a likely case)... In English "beached whale" and "beached ship" are...

Re: Joyou kanji = fluency?

Your arguments seem similar to the way literacy develops in any lifestyle. I think both you guys have valid points. Probably people forget some words and Kanji, but also learn others as they go through college and then enter the workplace. Don't forget that a classroom education in any language, eve...

Re: About a grammatical term

These are my opinions on the usage of what would be the equivalent of emotional particals in English. I'm only going on what I have experienced and believe. If any of this interests you, please just take my opinions as a place to start, not as scientific facts. I may be a little wrong in my assumpti...

What made you choose japanese?

Well, my interest in the Japanese language started because of my interest in Anime and Manga, but now it's the other way around!
