Re: My study method, advice, critique

seems like a good plan to me. Similar to my method. But I read the grammar notes before reading the chapter passage conversation, so I can understand most of what im reading before I read the translation.

~んです....

I dont understand when I should use ~んです. I understand its the mode of explaining things and for emphasis....but something about it isn't clicking for me. Can someone please give more examples of how ~んです is used? I can mostly think of using ~んです when answering questions, is that correct? example: ど...

Re: Te form for joining sentences (please help)

haha thanks for the topic. I was also wondering the same thing. I figured you would use じゃなくて for negatives seeing as how じゃない has い at the end. But for some reason they dont say that in GENKI 1......

Re: て form+いる

thanks again everyone^^ i think i finally got it! Well....this is the way i think of it. When i try to figure out how to use the verb in te-form with iru, i first "translate" it as.. Re: て form+いる

if you just say 中国にいる you are saying I am in China or whoever the subject is (is in china).. yes, i know. Thats why i dont understand the meaning of 中国に行っています when i could just say 中国にいる. Im trying not to have such a hard time with this, but its kind of confusing. What would a different translation...

Re: て form+いる

thanks for the info guys. Appreciate it^^

but another thing...what about 行くand 来る with ている?

example: 中国に行っています。 - Somebody has gone to/is in China
NOT: Somebody is going to China
Why is that? Why not just say 中国にいる?

て form+いる

I understand the て form+いる in terms of an action in progress (ex. Eating, sleeping, reading, etc). But i dont understand what it means in the "state of being" sense. I know that it depends on the verbs used...but i dont know what verbs to use. For example.....the verb "to get married".....結婚している mea...

Re: Plan for Learning Japanese..

20 months in definately too long. You can finish GENKI 1 in about 6 or 7 months taking it nice and slow if you have other obligations to take care of such as school, job, etc.

Re: Starwars in Japanese animation?

Japanese always do it better in y opinion. For example, Batman Gotham Knight. Americans worked with Japanese animators and the animation was awsome!!! For the recent 3d Star Wars....i dont like the animation style. They should have done something more realistic like Final Fantasy 7 Advent CHildren (...

Re: Japanese for Busy People I: Romanized Version

For me personally, JBP is crap. Try GENKI or Japanese for everyone which are probably the most highly recommended book for learning japanese. With JBP, its mostly better in a classroom setting
