RE: Looking for someone to speak with :]

GCSE are tests which are (mainly?) taken in England. High school students take them in a variety of subjects. However, anyone can take GCSE's if they apply to take them.

A guess a GCSE is about JLPT level 3, except the test includes speaking and writing, so is much harder in that respect.

Answer this question first:
Why would Japan hire foreign workers when there are willing Japanese people who want these jobs?

RE: Kanji poll

I can't place a number on it, because although I write down information in my common place note pad about the kanji that I've taken time to 'learn', I know many more from exposure and the like.

RE: subed or dubed

What also annoys me about dubs, is they are always in American English.

Though Iwill admit, dubs are nice for late night viewing, when you're too weary and too lazy to flick between the subtitles and the cartoons / films.

RE: Learning Speed

^ Well, the average Native English speaking adult knows between 40 000 and 120 000 words.
At least from what my English teacher has told me.

RE: Learning Speed

10 000 sounds about right to be able to converse in many subjects using most fitting vocab. considering Natives know at about least 80 000 words themselves.

RE: さあ

It could be, I use it (the word well) in that way in English.

Thing is, anime subtitles are not translated directly to what the charactors say in Japanese.
this is to make more sense to the English speaker. As something that make perfect sense in Japanese, could sound not so good in English.

Kisshu wrote: Against what the other two are saying, I give a definate no. I bought it... it doesn't come in remotely useful until perhaps Genki II. The reason for this is that they use Kanji.
