Re: 内心期待している

Thanks Shiroisan! I checked jisho.org and it lists 内心 as an adverbial noun...does that mean that it doesn't need a に or と for it to function like an adverb? Thanks!

Re: 内心期待している

Thanks Ongakuka! Yes, the 名あ is a typo. :)

It seems to me that some particles were omitted here. Should it have been

内心を期待してると思うだけど?

内心期待している

I heard this in a drama (Nihongo no shiranai Nihongo), and I couldn't understand what it means. I can't get the context either, so I'm just going to put the entire sentences here: 内心期待していると思うだけど名あ、俺は。。。 What does it mean, and could you please break it down for me? Or is this an idiomatic expression?...

Re: Dumping class for self studying??

Years ago, I took the L4 test (same as N5), self-studying for the most part because I found classes too slow. I passed. :)

Re: the difference among "学ぶ""習う""勉強する""学習する"

習う and 勉強する are actually similar. Although 習う is commonly translated as "learn", it actually implies learning from someone in a classroom-type environment. There is an implication that you have a teacher who teaches you. 勉強する is similar in meaning, but can also mean self-study. I think 学習する refers t...

Alternative to Hiragana Times

I like the concept of Hiragana Times, being a bilingual reading material. I was thinking of getting a subscription, but I found the articles in the sample magazine quite boring. If I were to tutor someone who was learning English, this is NOT the type of reading material I would give. Are there any ...

Re: Textbook to Follow Minna no Nihongo II

i would say "An Integrated Approach to Intermediate Japanese" is fair good, not perfect. especially for the self study person. -articles in the book are quite interesting, and sometime the articles are too long and too many new words and grammar need to memorize, while there are some lessons only g...

Re: Electronic Dictionary - which brand???

I have a Canon Wordtank G55. I chose it because it has English support, but all the support it has for English is having the menus in English. I think that you don't need it. It has the Super Daijirin, Kenkyusha's Jap-Eng Chuujiten (or chuuwaeijiten), Reader's Eng-Jap dictionary II, plus a kanji dic...

Re: 何時に帰りますか。-> time of departure or arrival?

Ongakuka and Ranja, thank you! I encountered this question in Japanese for Everyone (given someone's schedule, the reader is asked to answer certain questions) and didn't know how to answer it. Thanks again!

何時に帰りますか。-> time of departure or arrival?

When one asks you 「毎日、何時に帰りますか。」, do you answer the time that you leave the office, or do you answer the time that you arrive home?

I've read that using 帰っていく and 帰ってくる resolves this issue, but without the いく and くるmarkers, what default meaning does 帰る have?

SomeCallMeChris is spot on! What happens here is:

いきたい ---> いきたくなる

The たら form of なる is なったら.

Re: JLPT Kanji lists

Obenkyo on Android classifies kanji based on the new JLPT levels. I don't know where they got the info though (I thought it was from kanjidic!).
