RE: particles???

Definetly. It's hard to learn any language- particualry a language as diffirent as japanese- when you are constantly comparing it to English. I learned that the hard way- it's frustrating to try to understand particles by comparing them to english.

But I think I just reiterated what you said.

Yeah, this site is great. I wish it had more on vocabulary though... But I have yet to find a better resource for grammar and hiragana.

RE: Hiya!

Welcome to the site! I find it really useful to. I've already learned hiragana and katakana and am working on kanji... It's easier to think of it as words instead of an alphabet (this may not make sense, but think about it- kanji makes up most of the nouns and adjectives in the japanese language. Do...

Thanks- I guess you're right, kanji isn't that different from kana, or any other alphabet for that matter (and some of them do look pretty cool). Although I still think I'm going to learn katakana first.

RE: Kanji Is Scaring Me!

*nod* I'm having alot of the same problems. I can see how a word could have multiple meanings- it happens in English just as much. I don't get the 'kun' and 'no' thing either, though. Also, kanji is usually combined with hiragana (you cannot write any verb in the japanese language with kanji alone).

Also look at yesjapan.com. It costs money but the lessons are well planned and some of the weekly shows (such as George and Kikeo) are very good.

Cool. And yeah, it is useful to know hiragana and katakana first. I was kinda suprised with hiragana- It's no harder than learning the english alphabet.

Looking for advice on learning kanji and any other teens stu

I'm 14, and I certainly seem to be the only person studying japanese in junior high. I'm also really having trouble grasping kanji (2000 characters!) I've almost mastered hiragana and katana, though.

RE: Advice on learning Kanji.

I could probably learn 300 Kanji in a few days... I've learned more than 100 in 3 days (but this is because I have a broken foot and have nothing better to do than study japanese) And I've almost got hiragana down after week, as well as most of the grammar rules... At this rate, I'll be fluent befor...
