Re: What does English sound like to people who don't speak it?

Hm, let's see... These are just personal opinions. To me, American English sounds very nasal, not just because of the vowels, but also because of those Ls and Rs. Especially the Southern accent, with its loooong nasal vowels. African American English sounds high-pitched and kind of annoying, it seem...

No, but I really want to learn Swedish! Not really a "useful" language, but I absolutely love how it sounds and how it looks on paper. It sounds so soft, and melodic...

Re: Mr.ジェームス

I introduced a friend of mine who is also named James, and I was met with "Oh, are you brothers??" :| Some years ago there were two German girls who travelled along with our class on a trip. They had the same first name, and almost EVERY time they introduced themselves, they were asked if they were...

Re: Language exchange partner not contacting me. :(

I also sent an e-mail to someone weeks ago and she hasn't answered yet. Do you think she's also having problems with her internet connection? Oh, and my dog is lost. Can you tell me where he is? Talking seriously: never, ever, post someone's real name in any website unless you have their permission....

Re: Elderly Japanese increasingly turn to petty crime

Wow, this thread has taken an unexpected turn. I do agree with this: It's not a topic that lends well to conversation, since others can't conceive how I can feel this way, and I can't understand how others feel different. This is something that isn't worth discussing. No one is going to change their...

Re: Elderly Japanese increasingly turn to petty crime

There is no reason for children to be burdened by their parents, and there is no reason for parents to be burdened by their children after they reach adulthood. It's that very same annoying as hell dependency that keeps them from making friends outside their family. I hate those family is important...

Re: Classical music

I love classical music, and I have gone through the normal phases. it starts off with Bach, then Mozart, Beethoven, then Chopin, then Liszt, then Rachmaninov, Debussy and so on. Classical music is interesting in the way how you often tend to like more complicated music the more you have played it o...

Re: Give up using chopsticks?

Eh, my own opinion is that the people who would object to such a thing aren't the people who are worth talking to. Yeah. I forgot to mention that I don't usually seek a friendship with these chat people who object to how I write. To be blunt, most times I'm just looking for sex. With my friends I t...

Re: Give up using chopsticks?

For instance, I always observe the rules of accentuation very strictly in written Spanish, including online chat, whereas most of my native Spanish-speaking friends barely use accents at all -- even though they have accents on their keyboards and I don't! One of the first things native speakers alw...

Re: Classical music

There is one musician that I have a lot of respect for. I'm quite good at a game called Stepmania and have played piano a little bit and am still impressed by the sheer skill it takes to play some of his works. Revolutionary Etude comes to mind. Chopin. He's one of my favourite composers. I like hi...

Classical music

Hello. Who likes classical music here? Since when do you? What are your favourite works/composers? I'm using 'classical music' in the usual meaning of 'Western art music', from music composed in Medieval times to music being composed as I'm writing this post. I know it is an ambiguous (and arguably ...
