Re: Who here studies languages just for the hell of it?

*raises hand* I didn't even know about Anime, or anything about Japan, when I chose Japan. I chose something, "extremely different and challenging". :D

とか and など

Can anyone explain these words for me. Here's an example sentence. -> パソコン,壊れたって,起動しないとか?
My Japanese friend said,"「とか」は,「など」に近い意味です.". I don't know what など is either. (>.>;).

Thank you in advance~

Re: The one, the only, the

I don't know if this has been posted or not but Lang-8.com is a website where you make posts in your journal and have them corrected by native Japanese people. In return, you correct other Japanese journals. There are other languages other Japanese.

Re: Write your name in kanji.

If you want a kanji name so badly, why don't you adopt a Japanese name? For example, 勉 and 千夏. My Japanese teacher gave us Japanese names. I totally agree that (in Japanese) translating a foreign name into katakana is the ONLY way to translate a name. But you do not want a name to be called but rath...

First, Last and Third

Japanese has given birth to many "firsts" for me and often I need to express this to people. I know 一回 and 二回 mean first and second and 初めて and 先ず mean first but I don't know how to use them in context. Here are some sentences I would like to say: 1. 日本は行った初めてです。This is the first time I've been to J...

Re: skype partner

Does Skype always have to be voice chat? I am never n a area where I can chat. But my writing is much better than my talking and I don't live in Japan so it isn't my priority. I am between 3JLPT and 2JLPT levels. If you are willing to just type then I would be willing.

Re: nutrition vocabulary

That's an imprerssive list. Come to think of it, why doesn't Japnese Page have a lesson of cooking words? Those would be pretty useful, for me at least! I think I will make a list too. :)
