RE: I miss you

I had found a verb 慕う (したう) that means miss, adore, yearn for, love dearly. I thought I could use it to refer to a far-away beloved one.
Should I better forget it? ;)

RE: sleep

When I was studying kana, sometimes I would 'spot' kana shapes everywhere too, but now that effect has subsided. Recently, I noticed that a couple of times, while I was speaking or writing in English or in Italian, I was tempted to say things like ''The groceries, I forgot to buy bread'. That XはYが s...

RE: English must be difficult for non native speakers

17: Japan has by far the lowest obesity rate among industrial countries It's a fact that in Japan the obesity rate is about 3% for both men and women. For comparison, in Italy those figures are 9 and 10% respectively. In Germany, they rise to 22 and 23%, to reach as much as 28% and 34% in the USA, ...

I wonder if this thread should be moved to the learning material reviews forum, but anyway... I am a HUGE fan of http://www.japancast.net/ :):):) Our member Hitomi san runs it. She focuses on teaching a more colloquial-style Japanese, a topic which is very seldom found on the net (and yet essential ...

私も答えてもいいですか。。。 1.

RE: What does "yare yare" mean?

I always heard it as sort of interjection, roughly equivalent to "Oh my oh my".

I wonder if it comes from the imperative form of やる, meaning something like "Do it!", or if it's just a word on its own. The imperative is unlikely though because the intonation is different.
