I use the same handle almost everywhere. Exceptions can be more serious or formal sites where a real name is preferred, or sites where I want to remain anonymous.

My guess is that learning Japanese should be *less* difficult for you than it is to learn English. Since each kana represents one sillable, you need to have less characters in your mind at the same time. Plus, the kanji are very "visual", as Milmi pointed out.
