Random grammar questions

Ok so I'm reading a Momoko short story collection for practice and for the most part I understand everything that's going on but there's a bunch of small nuances that I don't understand. Here are the most grammar-pointish ones: 1 よりー 撮影した”息子いましめビデオ”が出来上がったので、息子より先に私が一人でこっそり見てみた This one、I feel like ...

RE: What novels to start with

Big thank you to everyone who recomended or gave input! Huge thanks to Shirasagi for the handful of things I havn't heard of (or at least havnt read) and all of which seem of interest to me. I have plenty of things I'm going to check out now, but I'd be glad to hear any more recomendations and I'm s...

What novels to start with

I'm just about ready to start with real books (as long as i have my electronic dictionary at my side) and I need some recommendations. Now if it were up to me I'd be reading Mishima's Confessions of a mask but I don't think I'll be ready for something that hard just yet. I've tried some murakami har...

RE: Working/teaching-specifically in Tokyo

What? There are no ALT positions at all in Tokyo? I do have reason for picking Tokyo. I spent two months in Japan, about 3/4 of it in Tokyo and I know my way around it very well but I don't suppose that will help my case if they are looking for knowledge of Japan as a whole, it looks like it could a...

Working/teaching-specifically in Tokyo

I'm graduating from college in May with a Psychology major and a Japanese minor. I want to live in Japan, for at least a year or two, possible longer, but as cool as Osaka or Kyoto are, I'm in love with Tokyo and have my heart set on it. Chiba or Saitama would not be too bad but any further than tha...

Where are the forum vocab lists?

I remember finding a comprehensive bunch of vocab lists, someone had posted downloads of them on the forum. There were hundreds of words seperated into verb adjective and noun files. Can anyone link me to those?

Hi. Looking for Someone to practice with on MSN

I've posted a little bit but never really introduced myself. I'm a college sophmore self-teaching Japanese, have been for about 3-4 months. I hope to live there for a few years after college. I'm interested in the culture but I find most Anime and J-pop annoying (with a few great exceptions). I went...

RE: Learning Kanji- How and when?

That's exactly what I was looking for. :-D It was really difficult trying to remember the meaning for 1 kanji and ignoring the fact that i didnt know the other kanji, and trying to look it up was just confusing, I'll head over to a book store this weekend and see if I can find it, otherwise I'll ord...

RE: self teaching questions

You are probably right about it being better to start off with a class but I can't fit it into my schedule because I was in the general studies program and did not get to take any classes for my major until now (end of my sophmore year). I do find that I am ahead of many people who have taken a clas...

Learning Kanji- How and when?

I'm finding it hard to remember the multiple pronunciations of many kanji. I tried to remember the actual kanji to the english word first, that didn't seem to work at all, and to just learn the different pronunciations with that didn't work either because when I wanted to use it I didn't know which ...

RE: self teaching questions

I have been self teaching for just over a month and I know much more that my friend whose taken a semester and a half. I don't have that much experience, but I think the key is spending a lot of time and starting with something a class would start with. I found some sites that were teaching some com...
