Re: Message correction

Hmm really? Wouldn't that be ~たくかった for not wanting something (in past tense)? Maybe you just misread it? Or am I missing some grammatical point here?

Re: Message correction

Thanks for all the help! I just have this one question.

「昔作曲家になりたい時に作りましたけど...」

Should I write it like this for past tense or does 昔 do the job by itself in this case?
「昔作曲家になりたかった時に作りましたけど...」

Re: Message correction

So this'd be correct then?

あ、そうだ!実は、一回弦楽曲を作りました。
短いですが、見せてほしいならスコアーを見せます。
昔作曲家になりたい時に作りましたけど、今作曲家になるが無理だったということを知っています^_^''

Message correction

Okay, so I've been writing to a Japanese person for a while and we're both playing instruments (she's playing the Violin) so we've been talking about that for a few messages. Anyhow, there are some words and expressions I'm not sure of, so I'm gonna write what I intended to write in English and also...

Re: Line from Mother 2

That's a good possibility. When I asked the native speaker about the sentence, he was initially unable to figure out the meaning, but then after a while looking at the context and the sentence, he finally gave the meaning he suggested. But if it took that long to figure it out, it could be a mistak...

Re: Line from Mother 2

Mother 2, eh? It'll be great when I know enough Japanese to play through that (and its sequel) and have a hope of understanding what they're saying. Which will probably be a few years off still, but hey. :) - Kef Well I can't say I'm completely ready for it as well since I was playing it with a dic...

Line from Mother 2

Ok so I felt like trying out some games today so I brought up the japanese rom of Mother 2 and have been translating words and sentences. The game is fully in hiragana so I won't have to bother with checking up Kanji, but I am of course doing my Kanji practice everyday (just so you don't jump on me ...

Re: Question about verb conjugation

I actually managed to find my answer elsewhere (Tae Kim's site is awesome), but thanks anyhow :) That base 1 form I was speaking of is exactly that 未然形. I was thinking it might have been an exception, I just found it weird how the author didn't even note that it was an exception in this case. You ca...

Question about verb conjugation

Ok, so I've been reading in this book called "Japanese Verbs: Saying what you mean" and right now I've gotten to the lesson about using "ずに". I understand how it should be used, it's just that there is one example where the conjugation seems different from what it should be and there's no explaining...

Re: I'll be back soon

Basically what I was saying is, when I was chatting, at the time I wanted to know how to say brb, slang or not, but coming here I wanted to know more than just that because as much as I didn't know how to say it in informal speech nor did I in formal speech. Hope that makes sense. I can't just be le...

Re: I'll be back soon

Well, that's KIND of an important piece of information you need to supply. See why I keep ranting on about context? Tony Excuse me if what I wrote wasn't sufficient, but really I wasn't specifically looking for that, it's just that the thought kind of arose while I was chatting. That's why I kind o...

Re: I'll be back soon

(You also said "how would one write ", which makes me confused as to exactly what the context is here and what you hope to use this phrase for.) What I wanted to use it for it was basically writing the Japanese equivalent for "brb" on a Japanese chat. ちょっと行って来る seems to be the phrase I was searchin...

I'll be back soon

How would one write "I'll be back soon/be right back" in Japanese? I'm not sure, but すぐ帰る works right? Are there different ways to say it, maybe some slang or less formal speech?

Re: Schools for studying Japanese in Osaka or elsewhere

Yeah, I know Osaka is not the cheapest alternative, but as I said, I want to be able to experience lots of different things while in Japan, meet lots of new people and have lots of fun. So someone told me Osaka is the place to go for many reasons (lots of activities and friendly people), but what do...

Schools for studying Japanese in Osaka or elsewhere

Since I've been considering to go to Japan to study for some while now I figured it's time I get some more information about schools and other necessary information I might need. There are institutions in Sweden that can give you some help regarding this and put you into a school they're affiliated ...
