A Verb as a Noun??

I had a set of sentences to translate into Japanese for my homework. I've had no problems until I came to this one: "Studying Japanese is not easy, but interesting." I know all the individual words but the phrase "studying Japanese" threw me for a loop. I could write Japanese isn't easy to study, bu...

How to use a Japanese-english dictionary?

I sure hope this is the right sub-forum. Anyways, I have a rather dumb question. I recently bought a Oxford Japanese/english dictionary. I can use the english-japanese part just fine but I'm not sure how to use the English-Japanese half. What order are the words in? Thanks in advance!

Re: How did you memorize Hiragana?

I learned hiragana first in high school and we used some mneumonics (things to remember them by) like thinking of ぬ as a bowl of noodles. Otherwise it's just repetition. I wrote them out over and over and over... well you get the idea. Instead of doodling on your notes for other classes try drawing ...

RE: first anime you have watched

The first I remember was seeing some odd show with a kid with a really big poll that grew bigger:D I later figured out that it was Dragonball. The show disappeared for years but I remember watching episodes when I was 4-6. After a while I saw a show that looked similar and got into it - Dragonball Z...

RE: American slang?

I'm Canadian so there's the obvious 'eh'. I'm guilty of using that often. Hm.. 'like' is used quite a lot too, to my annoyance. "He was like so, like, hawt, you like know what I mean" *sigh* 'Oh burn" is quite common, or the more annoying "oh snap" from teeny boppers. The whole rapper/gansta speach ...

RE: Japanese dvd?

Arigatou! That is sure a pain then.. I wonder if I could obtain a region-free DVD player here in Canada.. the copyright law is fuzzier in areas. Any idea how much they would be?

Japanese dvd?

My friend bought me a dvd of Rurouni Kenshin in Japanese from a Asian mall the other day. I went to play it on my dvd player and it would not play. I also tried it on my computer (which can play dvds) and that wouldn't play it either. There isn't any difference in the format of english and japanese ...

Answering Genki desu ka

Okay, I know when someone asks you that you answer with "genki desu". But, what if your not doing good, what if you've had a bad day, or you've had a super day? Basically what are some alternative answers to the question of genki desu ka.

Kane a negative form?

My cousin always says "kawaii ka ne" for not cute. I have not heard this used anywhere but from her. Can someone explain how and when to use it. Arigatou!!

Calling all those who speak french!

I have a short questioneer that I need to be answered by 10 people. I have asked those in my french class at school, but there's only 3 ^^'. Hopefully this isn't against the rules. If it is then feel free to delete it. 1. Combien les copines avez-vous? 2. Voyez-vous vos copains tous les jours? 3. Qu...
