Re: What's New

For ongoing anime this season my recommendations would be Umineko no naku koro ni, Bakemonogatari, and Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood. These are kind of the most popular series this season that most people are following. Umineko is more of a mystery anime that gets you thinking. Bakemonogatari is k...

Re: "Voiced" and "Non-Voiced"?

Thanks for that! Definitely going to take a look at that wiki article. I knew there had to be something like this. At least now I can attempt to guess more accurately. And I guess rote memorization is the only way to go, oh well. Hopefully it doesn't cause me too much trouble later on.

"Voiced" and "Non-Voiced"?

This is something that has been bugging me for a long time. When reading unfamiliar kanji compounds, for the most part, I'm able to accurately guess the readings but then there comes words like 笑い話 and 笑顔. At first sight I had thought they read as わらいはなし and えかお but that turned out to be wrong. This...

Re: The Penultimate Japanese IME Guide... well, almost. :)

This guide tells you how to get to the IME pad. However, it doesn't have any pictures that tell you what an IME pad is. This post http://thejapanesepage.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=15&t=13611#p156406 has a picture of the IME pad. それを全然分かりませんでした。 それをたぶん説明する。。。。 Q:What is the IME Pad? A: A tool that lo...

Re: One more question on Kanji

Interesting. I don't have a portable electronic dictionary, but the link I was given will work well enough should I run across a written kanji that I don't recognize. I'm surprised no one has mentioned the IME Pad. Although it might be faster (sometimes) to use WWWJDIC to look up some Kanji, the IM...

http://www.collegeboard.com/student/testing/ap/sub_japaneselang.html http://apcentral.collegeboard.com/apc/public/courses/teachers_corner/37222.html The pdf has some basic stuff that shows up. Also it gives a list of the kanji tested. From what I know the test is somewhere in between JLPT2 and JLPT3...

Re: The Dec 6th 2009 JLPT registrations start today, Aug 3rd!

Using this site: http://www.e-japanese.jp/grammar3.htm 3級 basically covers the grammar of Genki I and II (assuming 4級 is included). So if you can get through both books in four months, definitely go for it. There is also some kanji you probably want to study since Genki doesn't cover all of the JLPT...

普通にX

So I see this all the time on ニコニコ but I never really grasped the meaning. I understand that 普通 means normal/ordinary and can understand its use in a sentence like 普通に英語を話せたい。(I want to be able to speak English normally. Correct? ) That all seems simple but the comments in ニコニコ are usually along th...

Re: Attempt at a story.

子供の名前ひがしです 子供の名前 は ひがしです やさひい子供です I think you meant やさしい? でも、天気は暑かったです。 だから、みずはよかったです。 These sentences sounds a bit odd to me... but not really sure how to correct it. And I don't think よかった works if you want to mean the water felt good. 晩の時 I think 夜(よる) would be better for conveying night time. A...

Re: Linking nouns and adjectives

I realize -と is used for linking nouns, so how would I say something like "The boy is kind and energetic"? I'll let someone else answer your other questions since I'm still a beginner also, but for linking adjectives you use the て form of it. Kind= 親切(しんせつ) Since it is a な Adjective you attach a で ...

Re: AP Japanese Test

AP Japanese College Board website This might answer many of your questions. The course description as well as the exam overview provides a lot of details. From what I've heard and seen it's generally in between a JLPT3 and JLPT2 level. Looking at your experience I doubt you'll get anything below a ...
