Re: A question about the particles へ (he) & に (ni)

Hello, it's me again, back with another question :sweatdrop: Hey, just want to say. I do not know how long you are learning, for me it is several years, I know へ and に are interchangeables sometimes, and when, and when not, and such, but I have not thought the nuances through, entirely yet. So plea...

Re: Very Basic reading question

think it might also be interesting to note that あるところに is part of a set pattern that is common in fairytales/物語/昔話: むかしむかしあるところに [昔々ある所に] kinda like "once upon a time, in a land far, far away..." Just a small yet not so small thing coming to my attention yet again, kanji making life so much easier....

Re: JLPT, Does it make you breakfast?

Not to be rude or anything but what do you gain from the jlpt? Excluding those who take it so they can work or go to school what do you gain from it? The number of people on this forum and in general who obsess about the jlpt seem very disproportionate to the number of people who would actually hav...

Re: JLPT, Does it make you breakfast?

Conjecture? Perhaps, but it does get at the what I am talking about which is people equating passing the JLPT with being proficient in Japanese I have still to meet the person, who thinks passing the JLPT says much about the proficiency in the language. Most that I meet who take it, are alot more c...

Re: To learn more about the JLPT

I'm 3/4 of the way through Genki I, what hope have I of succeeding in the JLPT this/next year Pretty good I would say, for JLPT4 at least. I used a special grammar book besides the text books, for preparing specifically for JLPT. Apart of preparing for the test, it was great to read the same topics...

Re: Joyo or JLPT kanji? :(

Jôyô is not a method but a list of all Kanji officially in use. Whether you learn it in the JLPT sequence, or any other does not change the fact that you most probably learn Jôyô Kanji. If by Joyo you mean according to the grades, in the sequence the japanese children learn it, that is a fine way of...

Re: さん、君、ちゃん

I think most of the problem is the complete absence of formal and informal speech in English. (It does exist but in a more subtle level than in other languages, Europeans included -- which is by the way the reason it took me a while not to think all Americans are impolite.) Complete absence is a bi...

Looking for a book from Unicom for JLPT 3

I am not sure where to put that question or whether it is even according to forum rules. Apologies in case it is not. I started to prepare for JLPT 3 this year, and am working with the Unicom grammar book. As those know who worked with it, it is all in japanese. It is quite the challenge to translat...

I am new here, and say hello to you all :) I am learning japanese by myself since about 2.5 years. I passed JLPT4 in 2007, and am preparing now for JLPT3. For general progress I work with Minna no Nihongo, and for preparing JLPT3 with Unicom's grammar book. Listening comprehension is sitting on its ...

Re: JLPT3 2009?

Minna no Nihongo I and II have supplements to study oral comprehension. For me, they are very well made (I used to be self-taught too, and work with MnN) 2 lessons a week is alot :) If you can keep up the speed you might actually do 3級 this year, I think. For preparing 4級 I used the book from Unicom...
