Re: Looking for a 電子辞書... suggestions?

Hi jim, It was a poor choice of words on my part using a superlative to describe the GG lol. I didn't really mean definitive, but could probably say it has better word coverage and depth than any other JE's on the market. Theres lots of times I can't find a word I'm looking for in there too, but the...

Re: postage options, the guys at White Rabbit Press are usually flexible if you drop them an email; I'm sure they'd send it via a courier of your choice if you ask. Are they really useful for everyday use? HELL YES! The Green Goddess is about as useful for everyday use as it gets. Whenever you want ...

Re: Looking for a 電子辞書... suggestions?

Here's my take. If you're gonna splash out on a 電子辞書 I'd only personally recommend any model that has the 研究社新和英大辞典 (the Green Goddess) which pretty much limits you to any XD- ?9800 or 10000 by Casio over the past few years. I think there would be relatively 'few' people who disagree with me if I sa...

Now that's interesting hyperworm, and actually explains my confusion. I wasn't thinking of that as a modifying clause at all. Thanks for pointing that out.

Can anyone help me nail this...

Hey guys, I'm using NHK news daily to increase my reading ability, and there's an article in particular that is bothering me. I get the whole gist of it, and the final conclusion, but this one passage has me going round in circles. Here's the link http://www3.nhk.or.jp/news/html/20120401/k1001412606...

Re: imabi web site

First off, I'd like to congratulate the work you've done Imabiさん, theres a hell of a lot of info there, it's very thorough, and I'm sure it'll be a fantastic resource for many people. However, if without taking offence you'd allow me to state my opinion: My take on this IMABI website is that it's wa...

Re: Overwhelmed with amount left to learn... Words of advice

You've been at it for only 6 months. Rather than looking forward at what you don't know, why not try looking back at what you've already achieved. Languages take time... lots of time. You gotta keep going, keep going, keep going and keep going. You'll probably feel very different about things in 2 y...

Re: JLPT N5 V-たり V-たり problem!And -なくちゃいけない prob!

I'm with Yudan Taiteki, whatever you are reading seems to be making this way more complex than it needs to be. Associating verb bases with numbers and codes etc just makes things more complicated in the long run if you ask me. And the trick is not to try to learn them all at once, but to learn them ...

Re: Great way of learning vocabulary!

Clareさん、
If you can so much as write your name in Japanese then you are ready to start using Lang-8. It doesn't matter how good or bad you 'think' you are, you have to start somewhere right?
Why don't you give it a go. Even a simple self-introduction is good^^

Re: -ないと

To put it another way, is a contraction, or an incomplete sentence. The full sentence would have (probably) been 気を付けないといけない (which is a double-negative) which means you MUST pay attention (for whatever reason). In casual spoken Japanese, parts of speech are often dropped and you just have to get us...

Re: Difference between ことになったand ことになっている?

If its helpful, I think of ことになっている as making something become 'customary'. As a result of it being decided in the past (ことになった)it has now become customary (ことになっている)

Blindreader, may I direct your attention to this site, http://www.guidetojapanese.org/learn/grammar

You may do well to go through that grammar guide as I'm sure it will answer many of your questions. Tae Kim's grammar guide generally comes quite highly recommended :)
