Seal stamps (Hanko/Inkan) questions about rules

So I'm interested in getting a stamp so I can open a bank account. The only thing is I don't want to pay 8000 yen for one. I've been looking around online, but I'm still unsure on some things. -Is it true city hall has to approve your stamp? -Will a bank take a rubber stamp? I heard stories about ne...

JWPce and pasting text

Okay, so I use this application as my main word processor. It gets the job done well enough, but when pasting text in certain places, it doesn't seem to work correctly. Rather than correctly pasting the text, it instead pastes an image of the text. Like it somehow converts whatever text is copied in...

Trying to identify a Japanese song (sound clip attached)

Basically, I heard this song once in Shibuya and then again on a Sugakiya radio. The second time I was able to record a clip, albeit not great quality.

If someone can ID it, much appreciated thanks.

Job searching - TEFL being considered

Hey all. I've been trying to apply for some English teaching jobs as a lot of them don't require anything beyond a bachelor's degree, but at the same time, they say TEFL/TESOL is preferred. A while ago, I did make the group interview with AEON, but didn't go beyond that. Since then, I haven't been a...

Alternatives to the JET program?

So, I tried for JET and failed. I'm wondering if there's anything that's comparable and more likely attainable out there? I have a college degree in business administration and am in a third year Japanese class.

Any info appreciated, thanks.

I recently visited the country - Returning thoughts

I don't really use this site often, but felt I should write about this. Anyway, I was over there for 3 weeks via a study abroad program and it was pretty fun. Akihabara was probably the most fun place for someone like me, but there was certainly more to it than that. 8) The people we met were all ni...

Writing a letter to my new teacher

Hey all. I took a placement test and successfully scored into the second year class, which I was pleased to have happen. The instructor sent me a confirmation today about it. I wanted to write him an e-mail in Japanese for a simple thank you. It isn't extensive, but I wanted to ensure accuracy. :) こ...

Re: シヴァックの練習: い adjectives

In Japanese, 熱い水 is called (お)湯. Your sentence would be 青いお湯を飲みませんでした. I see. Didn't know "hot water" had its own word, heh. To play 囲碁 game is expressed as 碁を打つ. But I've hardly heard someone said 僕は碁を打つのが好きです, despite the fact that it is grammatically correct. People who like to play 囲碁 as amateu...

シヴァックの練習: い adjectives

I want to be sure I have the い adjectives down as well as combining some previous concepts. These are silly examples, but the best I could come up with. 僕は木曜日に美味しいピザを食べます。ピザが好きです。 I will eat tasty pizza on Thursday. I like pizza. 猫は午後4時に青くと熱く水を飲みませんでした。彼女は熱く水がきらいですよ。 The cat didn't drink the blue an...

Re: How would one say "over the past few weeks/days"?

I see. Yes, I knew that I was using the past tense and I know about the interpretation you mentioned.

I was wondering if this could also be interpreted as "have been studying" or is that another grammar point I'll be finding out later? 8)

Thanks for the info, folks.

Re: How would one say "over the past few weeks/days"?

Hello. I see. 数 functions like "several", which is nice. I kind of feel silly since I saw something in Genki a little bit ago about this sort of topic. So to be sure I fully understand... 僕は日本語を3週間ぐらい勉強しました。 "I've been studying Japanese for approx. 3 weeks" ??? 僕は日本語を数週間勉強しました。 "I've been studying J...

How would one say "over the past few weeks/days"?

Well, topic pretty much says it all. But if I wanted to say the following, how would I do it? Over the past few weeks... Over the past few days... For the past month or so... I had a guess for this situation: "For the past two weeks or so..." 略2週は。。。 though I'm probably wrong. Thank you for any info...

Sentence with に and で particles

Hey all. I have been using Genki for a few days now and like it. I just want to see if my thought process is right. I'm studying how verbs work and was looking at the particles でand に. "de" for where and "ni" for when. I'm wondering about combining them into a sample sentence and hoping my logic is ...

Re: Good word processors?

Well, the whole Jim Breen thing was because I didn't know an easy way to get characters copied and pasted somewhere. The only reason I used it was to practice reading some stuff. I have Windows XP, but to turn on the East Asian support, I need to have my CD to install some files and I don't want to ...

Re: What makes Japanese so difficult?

I've been using Genki for a few days. I've been going through the first 3 lessons, but I actually really want to take it slow to remember the various words and grammar points. It kind of reminds of German (I previously studied this) where you sometimes have "strange exceptions" in spots. I was going...
