Re: Adjective question

Concider the following sentence: 田中は彼女が好きなです。 Does this say "Tanaka likes her" or "She likes Tanaka"? Personally I think it is the former, because 彼女が好きな田中 means "Tanaka, who likes her". Doesn't that make sense? However, Google Translate translated it to "Tanaka is her favorite". Is the translator ...

Re: Book Review

It's still a good book for grammar. I think that people shouldn't complain if it contains the Japanese writing or not. If you want to see the notes in the Japanese writing then write them down in Japanese, thats what I do. I don't like it when some people think everything needs to be in Kanji/kana. ...

Re: Book Review

I don't think people should be "aware" if it's in romaji. It is afterall a grammar book on the Japanese language not writing of the Japanese language.

Re: A descriptive paragraph about my day

Ore is the informal use of I for males. I am writing an informal paragraph because I'm not talking to anyone. Its a journal entry about my day. Using ore is the appropiate thing to do when in informal situations. See, this kind of post is part of what got you in trouble before. :| You're saying "Us...

Informal journal entry

Due to my last thread about "descriptive paragraph" some thought I was speaking to someone. There is no listener, only speaker. This is an informal journal entry. kyou wa hi ga sugokatta shita koto ga aru. gakkou ni itta keredo benkyoushita. soshite sugu ni gakkou, ore no shukudai de uchi o shita. o...

Re: A descriptive paragraph about my day

Why do you use "na" so often? The way you use it doesn't seem to have any meaning at all. shukudai o shite, ga soshite sugu ni tabemono o tabeta. I don't know why you put the "ga" there; it's not necessary. But if it were, the comma would also go after the "ga", not before it. ato de sono, ore wa o...

Re: A descriptive paragraph about my day

Use of ore by students always makes me think of someone who wants to be "different" or "unique" because it's the cool thing to do, not because it particularly suits them or comes naturally. A Japanese person might think you're either just bad at Japanese or an anime fanboy. Ultimately, it's not wro...

Re: Present Perfect Tense

BTW wouldn't "koto ga aru" mean to experience? Or wait, hmm, I don't think it does. I think its just -ta koto ga aru.

Re: Present Perfect Tense

Also I heard that the past form can also be used as the present perfect tense. (I have walked, I have eaten.) How do I let the person i'm talking to know that I will be using the Present Perfect? There is no present perfect (like this) in Japanese. For simply stating something that you have complet...

Rosetta Stone

Rosetta Stone Japanese level 1 Price: $229 This CD software is great for pronunciation and vocabulary. But not with grammar. It only uses the formal forms of verbs and is confusing if you do not know anything about Japanese grammar. The fact that it uses formal forms is not good. Japanese people use...
