From my experiences you dont need to be 18 to book a hotel room. If you show them proper ID (you wont have a foreign registration card so you'll probably have to show a passport or something) you should be fine. All I did was give them my gaijin card, the money and I got my key. No fuss no nothing. ...

My HS went to Shanghai...needless to say it wasnt a very good trip. There was something bad with the buffet they had the night they got there and more than half the 2nd years got very sick. It got even better because when they came back they started giving whatever it was to the kids at the school. ...

they wont give a crap about that status stuff if they know that you dont speak japanese that well. But when in doubt just use the polite form and no one will get hurt :)
