Re: How do you...

I wasn't even aware the Japanese knew anything about Winnie the Pooh. Speaking of which, here's something I've always wondered... From the way it's said, "Winnie the Pooh" makes it sound like "Winnie" is his name, and "Pooh" is what he is: a pooh bear. However, I've never, ever heard him referred t...

Re: Yet another でも question

Grammatically, the 忙しい equivalent of 不慣れでも is 忙しくても. I'll leave that uncommented and let you digest it so you can ask whatever questions you need. OOOH~ Crud, I should've known that. I mean, I knew the "て" form for nouns and na-adjectives (is it still called て-form?), I just never made the connecti...

Re: Yet another でも question

忙しいでもおつかれさまでした。 Classic gaijin-go. なつかし~な~ お忙しいところ、申し訳ありません (polite, to strangers) or 忙しいのにごめんね (informal, to friends) is "thanks for doing this for me despite your being busy." Note that normally you'd say 忙しそう about others. お疲れさま・ご苦労さま are another topic altogether. でも doesn't figure in the...

Re: Yet another でも question

I've always thought of it as just a modification of using the "but" meaning of でも

忙しいでもおつかれさまでした。 "You are busy, but thank you for your help." ⇒ "Thank you for your help although you are busy."

Re: how long would it take to read manga in japanese?

"datteba yo" What's that the sound effect for? Not a sound effect, it's what Naruto puts on the end of EVERYING he says. My friend got to meet the voice actor for naruto, and she begged him not to use naruto for studying Japanese. In her own words "I don't even know what I'm saying sometimes." *lau...

Re: hey im new to japanese and i have some questions

I'm pretty sure I have (though I'm not sure I've seen it on this forum.) However, the point I was trying to get across (perhaps too subtly) was that the original post was sadly lacking in commas and periods (except those used in ellipses, of which there was an over-abundance.) Yeah, I know. :P Alth...

The trick for that I've been taught is to compare wherefore and therefore.
