勉強

Hello! How are you doing? I don't quite understand how 勉強 is used when I want to say that "I study" something. I've stumbled upon two variants, are they both possible/interchangeable? Do they mean the same thing, is one more formal than the other...etc. "I study Japanese" (私は) 日本語を勉強します。 (私は) 日本語の勉強...

Thank you for the reply!

I'm glad it doesn't lose its validity! It's a relief!

Validity of the certificate

Hello! I have this question and I haven't found an answer yet, I hope you can answer it for me. How long are the JLPT certificates valid? I mean, if I take the 4th level (or, say, 2nd level, I'm speaking hypothetically) JLPT next year, how long will it be valid? Is it the same for all the levels? Th...

particle が

Hello! I'm learning basic Japanese grammar and I've read that the particle が marks the subject and を marks the direct object. However, I see this phrase and I don't understand: 日本語が話せます。 Why is が used, if "Japanese" is the object? I mean, I'm the one who speaks the language, so I'm the subject and J...

RE: Kamikaze

Really? Cool!

However, I still don't see the connection between that typhoon and a "suicidal attack".

Kamikaze

Hello!

I was wondering what the Kanji for "kamikaze" were, and I was surprised that it is 神風, "wind of the gods". Why is that so? Is that some religious thing?

Thanks, bye!

Japanese names

Hello! How are you doing? Well, I have this question for you. I saw this Japanese name: Youko, and I was curious about how it was written. So I started writing the name in my Japanese Word Processor and of course I had the hiragana ようこ. However, I wanted to know which Kanji were used, but, surprise,...

Numbers...

Hello! How are you doing? Well, I've learnt these numbers in Kanji, but I've noticed that in "actual" Japanese Arabic numbers are written very often. For example, September is 九月, but I've seen that it's usually written 9月. So, I was wondering...when do you use numbers in Kanji and when Arabic numbe...

RE: What languages do you know?

Spanish is my mother tongue. I've learned German in school for 10 years and I'm somewhat fluent. I've learned English for 7 years and I'm also somewhat fluent. I've tried to learn Italian and French, but I left it because I didn't find them very interesting (Spanish is very close to them, and with s...
