average vocabulary of a 6 year old

I have been curious as to the average spoken vocabulary of a 6 year old child in this country. (USA) I did a search and found that the average spoken vocabulary of a 6 year old English speaking child is 20,000 words. These are words that they understand, but do not necessarily use everyday. The aver...

RE: Hello, good people!

Welcome! In the upper left corner of your screen is a blue box "navigation" In it you will find most of what you need to begin. Start learning the Hiragana and Katakana and work on the lessons. Everyone will gladly help you, but first look in the navagation box. Many of the basic question have been ...

increasing your vocabulary

Several times I have read posts from people ( especially beginners) who want suggestions for ways to increase their vocabulary. I just followed the link to the site with the words, kanji and grammar on the various levels of the JLPT tests. Level 4 ( the easiest one) has a list of 680 vocabulary word...

RE: Japanese Keyboard Setup

I don't know anything about Japanese keyboards.

What is the advantage to having a Japanese keyboard vs the way I type using the one in XP?

I am new to this, but so far I have been able to type the kana and any kanji that I know .

Why did you choose your avatar?

Harisenbon said his little screaming man is a charicture he did in college of his room mate. I love his avatar and I also love infidel's .

I am curious as to the reason or symbolism of other people's avatars.
For example why did kanadajin choose a girl when he is a male?

RE: Advice and tips for learning kanji?

Look at the blue navigation box in the upper left side of your screen.
Click on "kanji" . There is a very good tutorial for learning 1000 kanji. It starts with very basic information.
Hope this helps

RE: Best way..

I am not one to want to reinvent the wheel. So, I did a search on the net to find a college that was using Japanese for Busy People. I found one and the professor had his syllabus online. I have been following his syllabus. One chapter is covered each week Each student is required to: 1. Memorize ( ...

Correct me if I am wrong, but I think I read that Clay now has an arrangement where he can ship anywhere in the world at a reasonable rate.
Depending on the prices in Poland, it may be cheaper to buy it from Clay and pay the shipping cost.

RE: Japanese for Busy People II

Perhaps I am looking at the kanji through the eyes of a beginner, but here are my observations. In languages that use the Roman alphabet we form words by using various combinations of letters. In Asian languages they form words by using various combinations of strokes. We must learn the proper seque...

This sounds like a great idea:).
Perhaps after the song has been selected we could get Clay to make a wave file in the event some don't know the melody. Various countires have different children's songs.

RE: Pronounciation

As long as there is a thread on pronounciation I have a question.

I have heard wave files with 人 prounounced as 'hee-toe" or as "sh-toe "
Are these regional dialects or is one of these prounciations more widely used?

Thanks,
Barbara
