looong URLs syndrome

Postby coco » Sat 03.11.2006 11:50 am

I usually use long URL because I failed to make clickable (?) short link.
also I'm not sure about the reasons why long URLs are wrong.

There is a reason to use long URLs instead of [clickable short link(?)].
You can imagine what kind of site is shown (e.g. ac/go, etc.) before you click.

How should we introduce another threads of TJP?
make short clickable or ...

Please teach me.
Thanks.

long strings of text in English without spaces causes word-wrapping to fail. it makes a scroll-bar appear on the bottom of the browser, and it makes the middle column of the page become very wide. if there is one really long line, then the rest of the text in the page also becomes long and hard to read.

↑ this paragraph gets wide because ↓
↓ this line causes problem because it has no spaces.

hereisareallylonglineoftextwithoutanyspaceswhichwillcausethemiddlecolumntoexpandandmaketherestofthetextinthepostalsogoreallylongacrossthepageinsteadofdownthepage.

Japanese text doesn't have this problem. at least my browser is smart enough to know that you can split Japanese text after any character and not just on spaces.

URL's are like really long English text without spaces....

http://www.thejapanesepage.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=17&t=2988

but you can do them like this:

the Trial thread

↓ remove spaces in bbcode to make it work.
[ url = http://some.long.url/without/any/spaces ... to&the=end ] the short title [ / url ]

the short title

if you put your mouse over the link you should see the url in the status line at the bottom of the browser.

with Firefox, the URL shows at the bottom when you hover over a link. does IE not do this?

Sorry, my display does't show Tony-chan's URL.
I don't think IE has that function.
MS hide Tony-chan's URL still.
loong ULR(?) hide our friend Kanabukuro-san.

Thank you very much.

Zg-san, thank you again, I'm learnig a lot from you.:)
I asked friend about it.
Now I have realized that it's my pc's problem. not IE's. :|
I'm sorry for troubled you. zg-san. According to him that products of Fujitsu 富士通 and NEC日本電気 need to put check mark on active bar to see the url.
As you said i can see url with this Panasonic pc right now.
Next week I'll check my pc (Fujitsu) then, will fix all loong URLs that I used.

edit:I fixed my PC 's "status" bar. :p
