and i even have a running record of the number of people in chatrooms as a pretty graph... (i want to get the info into a RRDtool database for even prettier pictures).

So how does the current average compare with the Flash Chat usage?

i wish i knew! i never used Flash Chat more than once or twice...

if anybody has a rough idea of the number of concurrent users, and/or total number of users...

edit: fix bad quote.

well, the server is setup for ~95 connections (there's a 100 connection limit on the server account that can be bumped up if needed). so... let's get those numbers up!

I like jabber far better than flash chat. Flash chat was buggy, slow, and consumed a lot of resources.

Tessen.
i know its an SSL problem because i got my yahoo to work again, they have a help page which allows you to login without SSL, if gaim or any of them had that it could work probably... でもないんでしょう・・

Gaim, Psi and probably Pandion can all work without SSL, if you find the right option to select/deselect.
look for turning of SSL and/or SASL (negotiated SSL). also look to enable plain-text passwords, and sending plaintext passwords over unencrypted links.

the basic categories of connections...

password: plain-text or digest. we need to have plain-text to authenticate against TJP database.
connection: unencrypted (port 5222), SASL (also port 5222), SSL (port 5223)

SASL attempts to negotiate SSL if possible.

some clients require you to give the "OK" before sending the plain-text password over an unencrypted link. it's insecure.... but you send your plain-text password over an unencrypted link everytime you login to this site, so i guess it's nothing to worry about... :)

zen-san, i just tried that with pandion, but it still didnt sign in, so maybe i should try again later. and i tried with gaim now after reading your message again, but it still has an ssl error message... "SSL handshake failed" however, i thought about using the same way i found to log into aol (an html server? i think idk... a troubleshoot site had a server and a port and so i used it < login.oscar.aol.com port 137> and it worked for aim) but when i tried it on gaim it started to log in but just stopped..the bar didnt move, and it didnt work at all on pandion. so maybe theres a server and port address i could use for gaim or pandion?
thanks for your time zen-san, and cocosan ^^.. ありがとうございます! :(

with Gaim, on the Modify Account window (where the server name and screen name and stuff are),
Click the "Show more options" triangle. uncheck the "Use TLS if available" box, check the "Allow plaintext auth over unencrypted streams" box, leave port as 5222.

that gets a completely non SSL connection.

on Pandion at the login window with name and password stuff. Click the "Connection Settings" and in the window that pops up choose the "Do not use encryption" option.
