Nuh-uh.

今度 【こんど】 (n-adv,n-t) now; this time; next time; another time; (P)

This time was the original meaning but, for whatever reason, in modern Japanese it is commonly used to mean next time.

But thanks for actually paying attention to the example sentences. :-P

Aha, that was neat(?) timing. Your post only had the first half when I read it - but the [quote] picked up the second half as well.

Haven't seen you on the chat lately, Ryno.

From Kenkyusha's New School Japanese-English Dictionary (1968):
kondo* 今度 this time; now; [この次] next time; another time; [近々] shortly, soon; [このごろ] lately, recently; || 今度の[現在の]present; new; [次の] next; coming; [先ごろの] last; recent. 今度の日曜 next Sunday. 今度の先生 the new teacher. 今度の学長 the new president. 今度だけは for (this) once. 今度こそは this time; now [for the first time].
*kondo 今度は君の番だ。 It's your turn. 今度の芝居は大当りだ。 The present performance is a great success. またこんどお出でなさい。 Come again some other time. 今度からもっと気をつけるんですよ。Be more careful in future. 今度僕が行くとき連れて行ってやろう。I'll take you with me the next time I go.

What I'd like to know is how you tell when it means "last, recent" and when it means "next, coming"? Verb tense?

Partly verb tense, mostly context.

For example,

「放課後どこかに行かない?」
「今日は忙しいので・・・今度映画を見に行こうか」
