Can't log in on pandion :S

When I try to log in to pandion I get the error message:

Cannot log in. This may have one of the following causes:

-You entered an incorrect password
-The account does not exist on the server

Please try again.

The problem is, I'm sure that both my address and password are written correct so I don't get why I get this error message....I have even had save my username/password on and log in automatically.... And I could log in before today with no problem, though that was more than ten hours ago I think. Why is this happening and has anyone more the same problem? What do I need to do?

it looks like the actual IP of http://www.thejapanesepage.com changed sometime in the past day or so...

it used to be 82.165.133.something and now it's 82.165.137.91... back when i was testing the chat server before DNS had changed and such... i added a '/etc/hosts' (LMHOSTS for winblows people) line for 'www.thejapanesepage.com' with the then current IP address for the http://www.thejapanesepage.com site for testing purposes. i left the 'hosts' entry in place.... it seems that a day or so ago the DNS information for http://www.thejapanesepage.com actually changed to a new IP address...

anyway, try again. it should work now (that is... it now works again for me... )

Ongakuka... are you sure you've chatted anytime recently? the server logs go back for a couple of months and there's no information at all for your username...

looks like you haven't failed authentication using Pandion, but using jwchat (the web interface)....

anyways, double check your password, if you maybe had Pandion save your password at some point in time, and then changed your TJP password, then Pandion would be sending the wrong password. the chat server uses the TJP username/password database for authentication.

there are currently 14 people connected at the moment, all have connected since i restarted the server last night. i am able to disconnect and reconnect without problem. other people are able to connect without problem... i can't think of anything that would cause you two to fail except typing the wrong password. even now, people are connecting just fine so it seems...

just a random brain dump... (and double post.. oops.)

at the moment, the chat server is hosted on a *cheap* IRC server hosting provider. cheap IRC server hosting is often used to do bad things like control a bunch of infected machines used to send spam, or as a control channel for botnets that do DOS attacks....

if you have extreme problems connecting to the chat server, it may be that your ISP has blocked access to the hosting provider... i know our security people found a couple of bad machines at a hosting provider, they blocked 3 or 4 different machines before they went overboard and just blocked the entire network.... i can't get to datatorrents.net because some other machines on their network were being used for spam/DOS/IRC Command & Control servers/etc...

it is entirely possible that another IRC server on the same machine as our chat server is doing very bad things... and some ISP decided to just block a bunch of machines to be safe... it happens.... often enough...

just a few days ago there was a big BRUHAHAHA because some U.S. ISP decided to hijack DNS for some IRC servers that were being used for bad things... just another datapoint. at the moment, it's possible that your ISP is preventing you from joining our chatroom because other users of the chatroom hosting provider use IRC for bad things... (i blame MicroSloth for all of these type of problems... ).

anyway, someday soon, ... the TJP chat server will move to a new hosting provider, the same machine that hosts the video.thejapanesepage.com site, and after a couple of days of problems waiting for DNS to update, things should be a bit more reliable, and less likely to have problems because the chat will no longer be hosted on a provider that allows *shady* things to happen....

I've never changed either my avatar or my password. The thing is I'm not sure my problem is related to all this high-tech stuff your involved with Zen; I'm able to log in now but I simply can't connect to the (server?) Although it's probably something minor anyway please don't go to any trouble on my behalf. Still, any suggestions would be appreciated.

Ongakuka... the IP address of your last post doesn't even show up in the connection logs for the chat server. can you click on the "Who's Chatting Now" link in the left side panel and actually get to see the page of chatrooms? since neither your username or IP (but IP may change often enough to not be a good test) show up in the logs, i can only conclude that you can't reach the server at all.

try going to http://chat.thejapanesepage.com/ and see if you get a page. it should be some junk about IRCd hosting.

if you can't get there, contact your ISP, they are blocking your access.

if you can get there, but can't get to http://chat.thejapanesepage.com:5224/online_users.yaws, then they are blocking the ports needed for online users page (5224)... again, call your ISP and complain.

if you can get to both web pages, but can't get Pandion to work, then either your ISP is blocking the Jabber protocol ports (5222,5223) or there's something wrong with your Pandion install or your computer... turn off any firewalls, remove and re-install Pandion (or try Gaim/Pidgin).

that's about all of the tests i can think of that aren't too hard to explain...
