Wagawiki search

I just realized why wagawiki ALWAYS gives a "no pages" result for every single search I've ever run.

It searches categories by default.

Naturally, we have many pages, but not so many categories, and the categories might not fit the average search term. This was the first time I ever noticed the search in namepsaces boxes on a failed search, so if I can use wiki for over a year and not notice, I'm sure many new users do not either.

I suggest changing it to search Main by default and possibly put an "advanced search" link in the search box that would link to a page with the namespace boxes at the TOP of the page so they are more noticable.

it doesn't. a search on 'todo' brings up my page and some other random page that has 'todo' in it's body text.

nothing i know about the Wikipedia software implies that a search only searches by category.

some examples?

I just know typing "textbook" in the left search box gives no hits. I'm pretty sure there is a page somewhere in waga wiki about textbooks, but this is the result I get.

At the bottom of the page there is a check in "category" which is why I assume that it searches category by default.

I tested todo myself and this is what I get

Searching for "grammar" nets one hit, and--you guessed it--it's for the category grammar, not all of the grammar pages.

Only if I don't use the left search box and use the "failed search" box and change the check box from its default "category" to "main" do I get useful results.

I see what Zen sees. Try checking your preferences for searching.

I didn't even realize there were search preferences.

It is category as you surmized. Since I never touched it, I'm sure it defaulted to category for others.
