BEGINNER WARNING!
Hi I am n00b at this site I just joined in today.
My name is Paul and i study my nationality in English 英語 (i think thats correct). My background language is Greek (since I am Greek in blood) and I am now deciding to learn Japanese (i wish i started earlier).
I was wondering if we can do ANYTHING thats Hiragana/Katakana/romaji that can help me learn words, phrases, etc.
And also one more question. Is there a Japanese/romaji dictionary that actually works???
Thanks in advanced.
Please introduce yourselves
.
I do hope we can learn off each other.

Re: BEGINNER WARNING!
hey there, i'm a native english speaker as well. as far as online dictionaries go, i use this one http://www.csse.monash.edu.au/%7Ejwb/cgi-bin/wwwjdic.cgi?1C
it has entries listed in both kana and kanji. you can also search by entering romaji. to translate kanji and kana characters online, simply copy and paste into the search engine. i hope this helps. happy studies :]

You may also want to consider the Rikaichan plugin for the FireFox web browser.
http://www.mozilla.com/firefox/
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/2471 (Has some small screenshots to show what it looks like)
Or you can get it from its home page at : http://www.polarcloud.com/rikaichan/
I use this every day!

Welcome to TJP.
Sorry, it's not clear from your post what your native language is. What does "background language" mean?

Welcome. Just fyi. You're not a noob. A lot of people think noob = newbie, but it does not. A noob is an idiot that thinks he knows everything, not a person that knows there is a lot to learn.
Scroll down to behavior of noobs and you'll see why the term noob is a derogatory term.

Newb, pronounced the same as noob is also short for newbie and many times, when someone hears the term newb, they associate it with noob and with the OP being Native Greek, perhpaps we can forgive them their misunderstanding.
Now, let's all remember Noob, Newb, Newbie, new rice, greenie, proby (probie)..[short for probationary], etc are all terms for rookies and quite honestly all of them can be used either in a derogatory or non-derogatory manner.
