The Genki Group

Post by Kisshu » Sat 05.06.2006 5:54 pm

In a previous topic, I suggested that we start a small thread for those studying the Genki: An Intergrated Course in Elementary Japanese series. I have already had a few people volonteer to join so I thought that perhaps we could start now, and if more people wish to join on, they may.

In this topic, we can hopefully run through the dialog, practice, vocabulary, and grammer sections of the Genki textbook. While we could possibly also go through the workbook, I think, for lack of time, we should just use the text book as of the moment.

Anyone is allowed to join, but we want to try to keep the posts as "on topic" as possible. In otherwords, no talking about how you broke up with your boyfriend or something. We will start with lesson one, and see how it goes. If this is successful enough, we can continue to further lessons.

Everyone who joins this group should have a Japanese font installed onto their computer, or at least be able to read Japanese on their computer. It is preferred that you can type in Japanese however. It is also a plus if you can already read kana.

It would also be pretty neat if we had a few people who owned microphones so we could work out a time where we could join a chatroom and practice the speaking sections.

If someone wishes to join, they can just tell us in their post and it will not be considered off topic. Once we get at least a few people to join, we may start:D

Note: Activity is required unless you notify me that you are going on vacation or something.

Note, I am reading all the replies to this topic, I just don't want the first couple of pages filled with all the replies people telling me that they are joining. I'll PM you that I got your message!!

I would also like to join, however I have already completed Genki 1 and almost done with Genki 2, but as Sachi said, a little revision never hurt anyone. BTW, does anyone know how I can type japanese into Firefox the same way I do in Word, (e.g IME) or am i forced to copypaste everything?

Yes. Its the same way. Use your IME. The language bar is a windows thing not a word thing, so its there for all programs.

As long as you have Win 2000 or above... The older IME is more limited in what it works with.
