Boast, Despair and Question thread.

Postby paul_b » Fri 07.14.2006 4:25 pm

I thought I'd start a thread people can use or for posting results they got from tests (online or otherwise) and for asking questions about things from those tests.

For example I just got 8 right out of 20 on the first test on this page (not the survey) I think this counts more as despair than boast. :-/

Warning: The test has some crude 'anti-cheat' scripts so you should only be able to take it once.

Now the question - this is one of the questions from the quiz. I'm not sure which answer is right (2?) or why the others are wrong.

[Edit]Incidentally I did slightly worse on the kanji test on that page - 7 out of 20. :-/[/edit]

The answer is 3. 1 and 2 have the same error in conjugating the causative form:

Gack. Half way between
and I didn't spot a thing.

On the first quiz here I got 85%, it's aimed at Japanese kids so I suppose it's an "OK ish" score.

I got this question wrong though. Anyone know which one and why ?

I got a 75% on that quiz. (I admit to cheating, using rikaichan, or it would have been substantially lower.) I don't know the right answer to that question, but it isn't

I believe 耳に入れる is the polite way to say 聞かせる, so I will go with that.

I haven't looked at the test yet. I'll have to give it a go.

Let me know what it says. I tried a quick Google but I ended up with a lot of pages about ear-drops and stuff. :-P

I was able to get 100% on the first four tests (the fifth didn't work for some reason). No cheating, honest - I think it is just a result of my hearing and using those phrases over and over in daily life - experience being the best teacher and all that. ;)

Paul, am I right in assuming you missed the questions where it asked for 尊敬語 but the answer was actually 謙遜語? I just went with the most polite expression, and that seemed to work.

耳に入れる was the correct answer, but I didn't look at the explanation. The other four options are something you do for (to) yourself, whereas 耳に入れる you do for someone else. Looking in my dictionary, it gives the definition as 「聞かせて知らせる」.

No it wasn't that. I caught on at the start as to what they were really asking for (I don't think they said exactly 尊敬語 but actually 敬語 which counts as all types).

Which they kindly explain in the instruction box on the right, if I had bothered to look. :|

I must have confused the first and second quizzes. ;)

Anyway, thanks for linking all of these fun tests. It's actually been years since I last tested my Japanese. It had never occurred to me to do it this way. :D

If you come across any you like not on the list feel free to add them or post here.

I've just added 05. Possibly too easy for you. I got 71/100, not bad until you consider pure chance would be 50/100. Unforunately it uses PDF files.

Incidentally the claimed average results seem very screwy indeed. (See end of answer page). I don't know how they are marking it but it looks like people are getting worse than random chance.

Is this list of grammar quizzes there yet? (Checks list) Yes, I guess it is. I got 1 right (out of 5) on the first one.

And 2 right on the 2nd. 2 right on quiz 3. 0 right on quiz 4.
