Watched the series recently.

Anyone else feel this one was a cut above the rest or just me?

I loved it till the last few episodes where they suddenly killed off nearly the entire cast, drastically changed the mood of the anime, and turned it into something resembling pornography at the end.

I know the change was abrupt - but the entire season was just an introduction relating to the angst between Guts and Griffith. Most other Animes just have "Bad guy" from the get go; there'd be no "cast". That you know the bad guy really well before he goes off down that path was a key difference for me. Could understand why he chose what he did. I could at least anyway.

An absolute classic,tho I do agree on the ending being a bit wierd in contrast to the series as a whole.In relation to the manga it all blends fine and in actuality it really is only the very beginning of the whole manga.But from the anime stand point it comes across as a very wierd ending!

The first film of the Berserk Trilogy is coming out next year around January. It's the entire adaptation of the manga. The first film will cover the whole Golden Age Arc.
