Tips on manga~~

This isn't particulary specific, but does anyone have any tips on manga (drawing, storyline, etc)? I'm not particularly good at drawing myself but I know there's a lot of people who are...

Somehow, the best way to draw individual characters that I've found is to actually find a picture of the character, and "copy-draw" the picture (not trace, but draw the exact same thing with the exact same proportions- grid drawing without the grid). But when I draw from memory, I end up getting really frustrated because there's always something wrong with it. :@
