Eye Idiom

Postby astaroth » Tue 02.17.2009 10:59 am

Hi everyone,
is a question about idioms grammar or culture?

I checked on the "body idioms" on the front page but can't find the one I'm looking for. (Also if I might suggest, it'd be better to group all of them together, it looked to me there are at least two independent and not linked together "series").
The idiom is いい目で見る (the specific sentence where I found it was: 良い目で見てください). It sounds to me like "to look carefully in a matter", but I'm not sure and I can't find it on a dictionary either.

Thanks, Luca

「長い目で見る」 「清(きよ)い目で見る」なら使いますが、「良い目で見る」という言い回しは聞きません。
どこで見た文章でしょうか。

Also 大目にみる:to tolerate; to condone; to overlook; to let pass
and 白い目で見る: to look coldly at; to turn a cold shoulder
そうだ、嬉しいんだ、生きる喜び!
例え胸の傷が痛んでも。

「Lang-8」の日本人は「post」にこの言い回しを書きました。

「Thanks for the corrections as always. Honestly, it's not always easy for me to understand them correctly and then I make always the same mistakes. Hence 長い目で見てください.」という文章でした。
すみませんが悪かったです。言葉は「良い」じゃありませんでした。
今、辞書でこの言い回しを見つけました…

ありがとうございました!

(and sorry for my broken Japanese ...)

「長い」と「良い」は似ていますから、間違えるのは無理もないことです。

どんな人でも間違えながら外国語を覚えるのですから
どうか気にしないでください。 :)
(お気づきのように私の英語など、間違いだらけです。)

Although I'm not familiar with Lang-8, it seems that Japanese people have been participating there.
I assume they are willing to help you there.
It might be a good idea to ask someone there directly next time.

They will be happy to help you, just like we are so. :)

Thanks. I'll write there to ask if something will not be clear to me.
