メタボ検診

The word メタボ stands for Metabolic syndrome. It became common since "The Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare" made it obligatory to diagnose the risk of metabolic syndrome to health insurance associations and municipalities in 2008.

Every insured people aged 40 to 74 is measured a size of her/his abdominal circumference, around navel, the thickest part of your belly.

If you exceed the following criteria, you are judged as メタボ or reserve メタボ（メタボ予備軍）.
－Man: his abdominal circumference is over 85 cm.
－Woman: over 90 cm.
－Man and woman: whose BMI is over 25.

People who have been judged メタボor メタボ予備軍 have to receive advices/instructions to improve their dietary and fitness habits from specialists.

Some of my male friends disagree with the standard, 85cm.
They say that it should be changed based on one's height.
( though men who have complained about 85 cm are around 25 in BMI.)

My husband was caught out as a メタボ at his last 健康診断. I don't know why they had to invent a new word for it though. I guess メタボ sounds a little better than デブ but it's the same thing.

いわゆる「腹デブ」ですね。
あ、メタボには不定冠詞がつくんですね。　(例： He is a メタボ．)

85 at the navel and 25 BMI seem low to me. I'm about 84 at the navel with a BMI of 24 and I'm fairly lean/skinny.

A BMI over 25 is classed as "overweight" but BMI can be misleading. It assumes that any "excess" weight is fat.

I found this comment on the Monash University's Centre for Obesity Research and Education website;

..... For Chinese, Indian and Malaysian people, a BMI greater than 23 is regarded as overweight ....

cocoさん、ありがとうございます。まぁ、妊娠する前からもメタボでしたけど、今はとんでもないサイズになっています。予定日は6月11日です。ちなみに男の子で、名前は「麟太朗」です。

BMI isn't the best way of diagnosing muscular individuals. Muscle weighs a lot more than fat. Considering chikara's build, I would actually guess more than 24. I currently have a BMI of 29.3. I know that I've gotten out of shape since I graduated, but I'm still somewhat decent. Here's a recent picture that shows some of my new flab

改札機の上で寝る猫が、あれほど日常の風景に溶け込んでいるなんて

とってもいい名前ですね！
勝海舟の幼名は「麟太郎」ですが、ベッキーさんのお子さんは「明朗」の「麟太朗」くんですね。
姓とも実によく合う素敵な名前です。

6月13日ですね。　麟太朗くん誕生の嬉しい報告を今から楽しみにしております。
妊娠後期に入ると体調が変化しやすいので、どうぞお大事になさってください。

I am still roughly the same shape as I was when that pic of me and Fuji-san was taken. Although I am heavier than that pic of me when I was 30 my waist measurement is pretty much the same (a bit thicker in the obliques) but I am bigger in the shoulders and probably ~6 kgs heavier.

Yudanさんに教わるまで駅猫のことはまったく知りませんでした。
最近猫は駅に現れなくなったとWikipedia「玖村駅」の項でも読みました。
ちょっと残念です。
改札機の乗車券投入口を塞がない体勢が見事だったのに。
